They taste good too.

I would think you should find some one who has fruiting trees and try the fruit first, just so you don't waste time and money on something you don't like to eat.

Windy, yes.  "Colder', lets say not as hot.  In no way is there any hint of "cold" in the air.  This wind sucks.  Lychees and Carambola hate it.

I would say cool during the day and cold at night the wind is a bit much.

Looks good. I need to get up there and check out your trees. Oh and happy Thanksgiving.

I don't know much about the white guavas but on my rubyx when the come off the tree with a little tug and are softer they are ripe. I sit them on the counter a day still anyway.

Some of the Birbia varieties also deal with flooding.

Guava (almost ever bearing here), breadfruit is sending male flowers so females are soon to follow, and starfruit.

HA HA HA Oh man Adam I am going to use that line its great!

Well it never hurts to ask :).

Lol glad u got a laugh

I got that seedling from Ed Self...

One day I was searching through a list of rare plants I thought i could never find...I sent Ed a request for some seeds, (and I remember thinking , there is no way he has this)

I was shocked when he said he had seedling for me!

It was definitely one of those situations in life that reinforces the old saying " ask and ye shall receive"

If I ever decide to give it away (which is a possibility if I don't kill it) I will contact you first!

 :)

Thanks buddy, I had a place at Grimal Grove with 6 other species of pouteria  ;D

I have always tasted only the "white" Guava...the Pink has a very different flavour ?

My Plant start flowering this year, I'm in zone 7b-8a and now temperature are becoming cold....i think it won't ripen, within a month they'll be put inside home.

Pinks have more complex flavor, I find them far superior.

Hello barath,

Pouteria coelomatica is another one what some of the members here grow, and a relative to Abiu. But I don't think there is anyone with a fruiting tree outside South America.

Tomas

Tomas,

I've had one for about 3yrs, it's grown about 8 inches in that period!

I need to figure out how to make it happy...looks like it's finally going to flush out new growth again...maybe it will make up for the dieback it had...I'm happy it didn't kick the bucket...

I know a place that tree could be happy Adam.  ;D  ;)

Some trees hate it, I have also noticed that bees also don't like it and steer clear of it.

I find it funny how these bugs like different trees in different places. Where I have seen them here they love cacao, but don't touch the mango trees less than 15 feet away. They are all over the lychee tree 100 feet away but the tree is so big they do little damage.I also have never seen them on any of the 6 species of poutaria growing near by. They also don't seem to like trees that don't have branches with in 10+ feet of the ground as much. No scientific proof just what I have noticed.

« on: November 05, 2015, 06:14:00 AM »
If it is a torta, it is not a cold hardy subspecies there is a seedling from that tree that is struggling at Chris Rolland's house. The seeds for the tree at Grimal Grove came from the Peruvian Amazon. It was IDed as Pouteria nawe but that could be a miss id.
