Citrus General Discussion / Centennial Kumquat fruit

My Centennial Kumquat fruit is about three inches long, deep orange pigment and tear drop shaped. It shows no variegation but the foliage does. I though this one had round golf ball size fruit that was variegated.

How does yours look?

Exactly what Millet said!

When I was looking for Xie Shan I could not find it anywhere. I looked for six months before I called Harris who did not list it and they said they had grafted a large order for a commercial Citrus grower and they may have a few left. They did and I bought four trees that should have their first full harvest this year. This Winter barely effected them. 19F was the low and it was at or below freezing for forty hours with a ice storm on top of that.

I believe Harris uses a lot of Kuharske.

Millet thanks for bringing this up. I believe I will get one to replace one of my dead Orlando tangelos.

I purchased my Xie Shan from Harris. While it was a PITA to actually get the order placed I was very happy with the trees. They were potted for orchard planting (small deep pots) and were mostly whips but man did they perform. They easily outgrew the three gallon plants from other suppliers. Today they have set a multitude of fruit and will be the star this year. I would recommend them.

My 20+ year old grapefruit was completely defoliated by this years Winter. It has sent out quite a bit of new sprouts and clearly was on the road to recovery when I discovered hundreds of frass piles on the trunk and limbs. After removing the frass I discovered a small, size of a pinhead, hole. I have not seen any bugs. Ambrosia beetles are not supposed to attack Citrus. I am very worried about this and I am considering using Spinosad, Imidacloprid and Summer oil. I wlll not see any fruit this year and the tree is about twenty five feet tall with a twenty foot spead. It grows through my deck and the lowest limbs are at about seven feet (from deck) and are huge (8"-10").

What are your thoughts?
