Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Where are my Wampee people at?
« on: April 12, 2012, 10:50:38 PM »
Yes I was referring to Clausenia lansium - Wampee. And no I wasn't claiming their was a pink form. What I was saying or meant to say was the fruit that I observed starts out as green immature and as it is maturing it had a slight pink tint to the fruit and then as it was fully mature it was a yellowish brown. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks,

Ed

That is the one of the great benefits of using Parafilm M and Buddy Tape you do not have to remove it! Both products biodegrade naturally! You can graft and forget it!

I am growing one of the Neal Peterson selections here in the Orlando area. I brought here with me from Texas in March 2011. It went through its first winter here this year. My "Wabash" currently has a few flower buds on it. I hope it well set a few fruit this year. I was growing PA Golden in the Houston area the past 10 years and it performed very well for me providing fruit every year. So I think it is other one that could be considered low chill.

Thanks,

Ed

I tried a couple dozen grafts of cherimoya onto asimina triloba rootstock several years ago. I had budwood mailed to me from 6 different cherimoya varieties. All of my grafts failed. I still think it is worth trying. I plan to try some atemoyas onto asimina triloba rootstock since I have both growing at my place.

Any of you growing Myrciaria strigipes? Ever tried the fruit? How does it taste? How long from seed to fruit?

Harry the ones I tried are sweet. I only like sweet fruits so I got cuttings from that one. It seems to graft pretty easy and looks like my cuttings may take root.

Check out this one:

I use this filter for my city water:

May be cheaper alternatives out there!

Good Luck!

Smell your dirt to see if it smells sour. Also check the drainage holes.

Also protect your grafts from direct sun or excessive heat!

Jay usually when you see moisture under the film it is because the film as lost its unique Permeability Characteristics. At this point you can't do anything but wait and hope!

Parafilm M Shelf life:
Three years without deterioration if stored between 7°C and 32°C and at 50% relative humidity

Good Luck!

Thanks Jason! I did not know that!

The most important thing that I found when using Parafilm M is the age of the film. A lot of times when you find it cheap it is pretty old! I agree with Jeffs earlier statement about the film being 2 years old or less it stretches really well. What I fould out the hard way is as the film ages it loses its ability to let moisture out. It will completely seal the scion and your scion will cook in the heat. The buddy tape is a much thinner material and has just given me all around better performance. But I all ways recommend you stick to whatever works best for you!

Yeah loquat would be another good one to try it on!

Oscar how do we get any of those seedless lychee plants?

I was thinking about this gibberellic acid treatment for Yellow Jaboticaba OR Cabelluda (Myrciaria glazioviana) since the seed is so huge and barely any pulp!

I was wondering if any of you have ever used Gibberellic acid to make seedless fruit? Check out this article about rambutan:
