I have hundreds of different tropical and subtropical plants in pots, but artocarpus integer is one of the most problematic to keep alive.
I guess, that this plant does not like water in soil at all. May be this is, why it has furry stem and leafs - for collecting air moisture.
Now I have two seedlings of some thai chempadak, and I am watering them only when they bow down leaves. And this is the way, how I am able to keep them alive - months ago I tried to water my third plant more and it died after one week.
Doesn't like water in soil? But this plant originates in tropical rainforests, not deserts. Maybe you mean it likes very good drainage?

, I am using professional substrates, good drainage means access of oxygen to roots, so may be it needs a lot of oxygen, but right now I am going to improve growing conditions by increasing air moisture, so I will keep plant in closed space, where air moisture is close to 100% - time will tell, if it is better for A. integer.
