Tropical Fruit Discussion / LZ issues
« on: July 19, 2015, 12:26:26 PM »
My LZ set almost 200 fruits the size of a golf ball in March. As the fruits got bigger it started leaning forward and the fruits started to drop. I staked one side where most of the fruits were holding and then they started to split. Now it looks like shit and possibly ready collapse. What happen my beautiful 11' tree??  it's starting to set fruits again...... is this tree worth the hassle??

Tropical Fruit Discussion / One year mango grafts
« on: May 15, 2015, 01:05:46 PM »
I've been thinning some of the clusters from my one year old grafts. What is the general rule with one year grafted mango trees, how many should you let the tree hold?

I have named these two outstanding atemoyas so there is no further confusion. SAP from now on will be refer as Calostro and SL as Birula. I've had numerous request from Floridian about these two excellent Southern California varieties however Behl and I are not setup to ship. So Treesnmore is now testing it and will be propagating them next year. I will update this thread when other nursery come online.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Socal Dale and Red Manila mango
« on: April 30, 2015, 05:43:33 PM »
I don't want to confuse them with the Thai new purple variety. They're from La Habra both have a purple hue, prolific and are excellent tasting. Here are some pix and you can see them fully mature in our CRFG webpage: http://leafylife.com/. Behl and I will propagate these on demand.

Red Manila mango ( August to September)

Dale mango( July to August)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sir Prize and Holiday avocados
« on: April 20, 2015, 10:45:01 PM »
This duo is setting fruits like never before, they are all over the place inside and outside the canopy.. They have set great crops in the previous years but it looks like on their fifth year they will set a record crop, maybe 200-400 pieces each. I'm excited about the prospect of year round fruit with these two varieties....I've seen mature SP holding fruits as late as August and my Holiday fruits have ripen as early as July

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annona pruning time in Socal
« on: April 19, 2015, 10:30:23 PM »
I experimented 2014 and pruned and stripped my annonas in February which was a pollination disaster because they were ready to pollinate 1-2 months too early in April. This year I went back to the normal schedule and pruned and stripped in April. I hope to start pollination in June but Super Lisa seems to be ahead of the pack.

Pierce and Booth brought down from 16' to 7-8'. I got carried away and cut off a lot of the branches which were multi-grafted.

Super Lisa put on a show and it has hundreds of flowers

This is an oddity we harvest these in November but these are California grown
These must come from up north anyone know?

They are all over the stores, farmer markets, LA produce Market. From now until the end of April is the best time to purchase they are from the state of Nayarit and Chiapas. Here is pix of them at the stores and next to a SAP. A bit tangy sweet totally fiberless good mango for this time of year

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit thieve caught stealing on my cameras
« on: March 11, 2015, 12:27:46 AM »
We caught this punk stealing our Super Lisa. When we approached him he threw his hands up and said he did not take anything. We told him he was caught on camera and we never wanted to see him around our house again. Here is a few questions for our fine attorneys of the forum. Do we have enough evidence to prosecute? Can this land him in JDC?

We found the fruit days later under the tree full of maggots

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Morelia papaya vs Mexican criolla papaya
« on: March 10, 2015, 11:23:39 PM »
Morelia papaya is consistently sweet with a honeydew melon taste without the cat vomit foul smell that the common Mexican papayas have......this one is a real treat look at the caviar looking seeds!
