I like to know if soursop pollen works with cherimoya or vice versa? Are there Any hybrids between these two? I saw two threads started by Ethan & Sheehan but those address rootstock compatibility,

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Best late mango in Socal
« on: November 08, 2015, 12:07:36 AM »
I've been eating late mangos in our area for the last 5 years and I've compiled a top fives list... six. I want to add that Cogshall have tasted better than my earlier ones it bloomed 3X. This mango is well adapted to our climate and should be in everyone's collection in Socal.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mangos vs Cherimoyas
« on: October 25, 2015, 03:16:02 PM »
We had the opportunity to try some top tier mangos(sunrise, LZ, T-1, Peggy, Malika Enerald Chocannon among others) and right after our friend Peter, Park Hill Orchard, brought us some early cherimoyas. I have to admit I didn't expect much from the cherimoyas but Honeyhart, El Bumpo, Sabor, Pierce and Fino stole the show. On this day cherimoyas reign over mangos 😀

For the first time a.cherimola, a.diversifolia, a.squamosa and a.atemoya will be evaluated head to head! We had to move forward from January to next week because ilamas (Genova Red)are dropping and splitting. I expect anona rosada to also slip in weeks. We have early cherimoyas and atemoyas dropping.

With all the controversy with faux pajapita GR has been in the shadow but it actually set more fruits on a much smaller growing tree.

I am seeing more Mamey's in Socal lately. With these pix I hope to encourage folks in Socal to plant them out.....they take awhile to fruit but eventually they will. My Magana has two good size fruits after 5 years this one is a 12 year old seedling that has been fruiting for 5 years.

I have a question for jackfruit experts. I've had this jackfruit seedling on the ground for 4 years how long before it fruits? I am willing to wait 1 or 2 years the most if it's any longer I will yank it out...it's 8-9' no flowers

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Please ID
« on: August 27, 2015, 01:03:46 AM »
This afternoon I was preparing Black bean potage which calls for Cachucha pepper that I grew from seeds from my cousin's plant in Cuba. I also grew, what I call, Vietnamese Cachuchas from seeds from a colleague. I was exited to compare them so I took a small bite and my mouth blew up. I believe these to be Trinidad scorpion peppers can someone ID them?

The top row are Cuban Chachucha peppers the bottom are the bells of fire!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Standby Cherimoyas are coming
« on: August 04, 2015, 06:58:52 PM »
With all the hoopla about mangos the season is coming to end, for our friends in South Florida, southlanders have something to rejoice; mango and Cherimoya seasons are a month or two away.....I hope you enjoy

This is the third year I've evaluated this mango. I've been working with the grower to size up the fruit by thinning and improve the taste by using compost. According to Thompson this is a Kent seedling with similar flavor and high production.
