Hi JF,
What date did your seedlings first
pop out of the soil? Thanks

These rosada seeds were potted in January 25. the pix you see was front two weeks ago so I would guess somewhere in between.... these are in Yucatán. But these germated in a month in Lakewood Ca.

It’s easy to germinate in tropics in Florida and California a bit longer

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mango’s - Which of These is Best
« on: March 30, 2018, 12:06:34 AM »
From a production standpoint, it is hard to top Valencia Pride in California.  It's a productive tree for me.  The taste is ok for the non-mango snobs.  I give this mango to my friends and co-workers because it is pretty and large.  Better than super market mango but not top tier.

Carrie I have trouble getting it to grow well in my yard.  Maybe slightly more susceptible to die backs on florida rootstock based on me and my friend's experience

Alphonso is a pretty tree for me, blooms like crazy but doesn't seem to set fruit well for me.

Keitt I grow only because it is the latest mango in my yard.  allows me to have mangos in January/Feb in the yard.

My friends have good experience growing sweet tart in california.

My personal favorite is coconut cream

If you want production and adaptability you go with cogshall and Glenn they are much better tasting mangos than VP.

I agree Carrie is the best out of that group..... it made my top ten from over 100 varieties I've had last year. Glenn is ok, the rest are below average.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Breeding Cherimoyas/Atemoyas?
« on: March 29, 2018, 02:31:01 PM »
Behl is right. Atemoyas might set afew weeks earlier but the bulk of the fruits will set late June to July. Ilama, Custard Apple and soursop from August to October.

11
All scions have been sold out
Seeds are only available of

Oxkutzcab red
Uman
Peto

12
Uxmal red custard SOLD OUT (seeds)
Down to 7-8 scions for
Pink Yucatán sugar apple
Peto custard apple

13
That oxkutzcab is huge.

Not only are they huge 2-3lb but these red custard apples are as good as any anonas we have in California. These varieties are much superior to Fernandez and San Paulo which are the reds I’ve had in USA.

Simon
That sounds good.  I’m involved in an anona breeding program but I would be willing to help with pollen from 5-6 species of anona.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Dot mango dying in SoCal
« on: March 21, 2018, 09:52:23 AM »
Although a great mango Dot does not rank in my top 20. Local mangos like Leo keitt seedling, parson, Leo Z and Señorita have out perform it in tasting and are well adapted to our climate. There are quite a few of Zill’s mango that have not preform very well in SoCal. Some that have are HK and ST you might want to replace your Dot with those or others.

20
Im receiving scions of those varieties, here in Puerto Vallarta I don't get alot of chilling hours, most reviews I see online for this cultivars are from CA, so would like to know if anyone has any of them performing at least decent in a more warm location than California..

Florida has failed w most of these varieties but yr temps are much more conducive for California varieties.

Terrific price!!
Thank you Behl
