Mike, I had a Naomi that Julian gave me to try, and I was not impressed with the flavor at all. Like Squam mentioned ealier, it was very mild and it lacked sweetness. Beautiful fruit though.

The final verdict from Top Tropicals on this matter is blah blah blah, same as I expected.....sorry you are disappointed but those are 3 normal 3 gallon trees. So, lesson learned. No more from them crooks.
That blows!
To top it off the Maha Chanok is going to die, it's already about a day from losing all it's leaves. They are just barely hanging on. On the plus side, it sounds like if it is dead within next 2 weeks then I may get store credit or replacement. We'll see if they actually follow through on that in the end however, as i am more than 90% sure it's a goner.

Mangomaniac sorry to hear about your experience with Toptropicals. I have ordered from them before and I haven't had any problems. Most of the times, the mango trees were better than expected with nice thick thrunks. The last ones I ordered were a Fralan and Tong Dom and they were very nice. Remember, if you can't resolve it with the vendor,  as a last resort, you can always call your credit card company for a charge back for the tree that dies. Regarding the dropping of the leaves, most of the ones I have planted, drop the leaves and within a couple of weeks they will start pushing. The first two weeks I water them almost daily with seaweed extract and some type of rooting hormone such as Superthrive or KLN. Hope that helps and all of your trees make it.

Comprade, se me hace la boca agua... ;)

Felipe esos nisperos/sapotes estan riquisimos.

I have read you can spray hormones during flowering to induce fruit set without pollination. You can get a seedless tomato like this. Could this not have been the case here?

That did not happen.

For sure FGM. I'm going to try to graft and see if the fruits from the grafted trees are seedless as well. By the way these seedless saps are excellent.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Seedless Sapodillas
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:39:05 PM »
I would like to get our forum members' input on this variety or phenomenon. I know there is a seedless variety which I was told it wasn't very good as far the quality of the fruit. However, I was visiting one of my friends grove a few weeks back and to my surprise most of the saps did not have any seeds. Out of eight that I have eaten, only big one had seeds and it was only two seeds. The first ones I ate were medium size and round. None of them had seeds. I thought it was confined to just one tree then I ate a couple that were elongated with a pointy tip at the bottom of the fruit and they did not have seeds as well. All of them are of excellent eating quality. Some more red than other. Some more of cinnamon taste than others. Does pollination play a role in the amount of seeds that sapodillas produce???

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Foliar spray with atomizer
« on: May 17, 2014, 12:33:03 PM »
I believe the benefit is that you can get better coverage because the fog that is created will go Into all the nooks in between branches and leaves. When using a normal sprayer, the particles are large and will fall with gravity, it will not wind it's way inbetween thick foliage. If you are spraying something that needs direct contact to kill your target bad bug, you may miss much of the surface area of the plant with a normal sprayer. I believe the atomizer sprayer is also very efficient with its use of whatever you are spraying.

Simon, well put!!!That's what I was told. That's why I am looking into it however it is pricey.

Is anyone using an atomizer for their foliar spray. If so, can you share your experience? Is it worth the money?

The problem for me it's not the extreme heat. Most of my plants can handle it. It is this damaging dry winds that beat up the tropical fruit trees. They also knocked out a lot of the mango fruitlets. It almost left my LZ bare.  Has anybody experience any damage due to the winds in SoCal???

With Cangrejo's Sugar Apple you have to be very patient. I grafted mine in January and they started to push 2 weeks ago. They looked  like they were dead however after scratching under the buddy tape, they were still green. I think Ethan had the same experience when he first grafted Cangrejo's S.A. I don't know if this latency is typical of the variety or is typical for a S.A. when grafted or grafted on Cherimoya.

I also noticed that in my area now is the best time to graft Custard Apples and Ilamas.

Huerta

This sugar apple wouldn't work in Argentina too cold there it's for SoCal

I will stop by tomorrow. I have some root stock to play with.
