Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What can be grown in Europe, zone 10?
« on: November 18, 2014, 02:19:59 PM »
Hi!

I live in Portugal, zone 10a but I think it is not like California, here the temperatures go bellow 0ŗC, and the wind from the Atlantic is to fear. I lost my papaya with 6 years, in a sheltered location. Other plants get the foliage burnt by the wind and don't flower. It is unthinkable to leave garcinia, myrciaria ot young eugenia in the open during Autumn and Winter. They are slow growers and damage can take years to recover.

Hi!

Maypop is passiflora incarnata. It is still one of my favourites, has a pineapple flavour when it is well ripen. In Colombia granadilla refers to passiflora ligularis. It may be too hot in Florida. For Florida don't forget passiflora alata and passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa (the yellow passionfruit).

Hi!

I grow it here in Portugal (zone 10a) although no fruit or flowers yet. But I know that are people in Florida growing them. It must be the most suitable state in continental USA.

Hello!

I am looking for fresh seeds from this vine from Ecuador: Granadilla de Quijos (passiflora popenovii). It also exists in Colombia known as granadilla caucana or curubejo. Please send me a PM if you have seeds or know where to find them.

Thank you!

Hi freinds!

Can this be a gac plant? It took almost three years to germinate in Portugal. The plant has tendrils to climb and grab itself to other plants or whatever.

Thanks a lot!

The seeds are germinating:

Its fruit has a flavour which reminds a mix between tomato, sour cherries and lichee.

Hi!

It sure looks like p. ligularis. When the fruits are really ripe the shell turns brownish.
