I just received a grafting knife that I bought on eBay made by Zenport.  It has a black handle and is beveled on one side.  When you close the blade, the blade hits the tang inside of the handle, dulling the blade.  I am returning it.  I am buying a Victorinox Swiss Army Budding/grafting knife on Amazon for $22.  I thought I would share the experience to prevent others from having the same experience.

My father had a lychee tree in Hawaii.  It was probably planted around 1950 or so.  It had a lot of flesh and a small seed and was very sweet.  Any "best guess" as to what type of lychee were planted in Hawaii around that time period?

Is there any interest in forming a group to trade grafting scions?  I see a lot of members complaining that 1)  they spend too much on their "fruit tree" hobby and 2) they have run out of room for new trees, but want more trees.  Trading scions for grafting would solve both problems by grafting to existing trees.  I notice a lot of members are located in south Florida, so south Florida seems like an appropriate place.  If there is an interest, how would you go about creating a "fair" trading system that would make everyone happy?

We have frequent water restrictions in south Florida that prevent watering or use of sprinklers, but micro irrigation is exempt from the water restriction.  I will be micro irrigating my fruit trees and need to figure out how much water to give each of them.  I am in Zone 10.  My soil is sandy and drains well.  Depending on the time of year the watertable is probably 5-10 feet under ground.  I do not have sprinklers for my lawn. 

Mango - Carrie
Mango - Coconut Cream
Avocado - Choquette
Cherry Guava (Strawberry Guava)
Lychee - Sweet Heart
Dragon Fruit - Mystic

I currently plan on putting 2 Gal per day on each of the trees, the drip would start around 5 AM and drip for about 1 hour (using a timer).   Thoughts?  Recommendations?

I am looking at adding a few more fruit trees to my collection.  I am in Zone 10 (West Palm Beach, FL).   I currently have:  Mangos, Lychee, Cherry Guava, and Avocado.  The things I am looking for are:  1) Fast growing, 2) Ease of care, 3) High Fruit Yield, 4) Good taste (I like sweet), 5)  No thorns (ouch!).  A long crop cycle would also be nice.  Any suggestions?
