I think many of us can relate to this feeling of our past. I rember growing up on property that
my grandfather got from Dr. Eldrige Gale IN 1900 who was growing mangoes at that time in Palm
Beach. I watched him grafting mangos up intill he died in1947. I have gone back to see some
of the thees that are still there.

A lady gave me a mango that she grew here in Okeechobee It was medium small and green but was ripe She
said it was a Honey ( Ataulfo .champagne).and the name fit it very well.Good honey taste with thin seed
It may not be my faforite but I would eat more

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Naomi mango
« on: July 20, 2014, 04:32:46 PM »
Last week end at the fruit conference, Craften Cliff  had us taste test of a number of cut up mangos.
First he had a dish of naomi mango which he said taste it and rate it #5 and to rate the others from
1 to 10 . Me I rated most of them only slightly above slightly below. One problem was some were too
green or too ripe. This type test tends to blend the flavors all together. So subjective .I did not see
the final results but the naomi seemed to hold it's own.

I was there for the weekend and the first face that I saw was Craften Cliff at the door of Fairchild. Then I saw a T shirt that  said
Gremal and saw others from the forum .I paid a buck to taste some mangos and to cool off Then went to the fruit and spice park
Sunday went to mingle and meet members and to hear the speakers Ken Love ,Adam.Juanita Popenoe,Jim West and my old friend
Chris Rollins. I won the raffell and got seeds from Jim West

Hi all--I would like to know if anyone has heard of "Ocean Solution"? If so is anyone using it?At our Okeechobee garden
club we were given free samples, also I saw it sold at the Palm beach rare fruit plant sale.
I had two pots of finger -sops-annona famale - that looked very pale. I sprayed the leaves one one plant for a few weeks
and the new leaves looked perfect,so I did the other plant and it did good also
The product says it is from sea water and it has 90 elements       WWW.oceansolution.com  - Look it up

After Andrew  I went to Chris Rollins home to help clean up. near by was a key lime grove Chris said that the seedling thees held up better than airlayed trees, but they were all sand blasted. Later I went to Smathers four FILLIS Mango farm and was told by Craften Cliff that all the trees
were pruned  before the storm so had little damage. Lessens learned

take your time  and enjoy watching the fruit mature. 13 years ago when I was 65 I planted jaboticabas and fruited them
There is a lot to enjoy in all phases  in the plant world from the experence of planting seeds and sharing with others.

I have just took the last 2 pounds of my march 2012 jabos  out of the freezer.
I followed a recipe out of the RFC tropical fruit cook book to make juice and then
make jam. crush fruit cover with water, boil add sugar lime juice for acid and add pectin
End result it did't jell that good but it sure is good over ice cream
I will try again with some of my march 2013 stash

Adam  sorry i missed the sale, I grew up eating gopher apple and other native fruits.
Did you see the pawpaw lady. She brings them in a little wagon.
Mikesid- I really liked your pics of native plants.six years ago I dug several  asimina
reticulata annonaceae famaly-plants. I donated them to Arnolds wildlife butter fly
garden I only have one left- They don't transplant well. From what I can tell from your
pics it is asimina reticulata.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any one growing pseudanamomis umbellulifera ?
« on: February 11, 2014, 02:03:59 PM »
I have a copy of - cultivation of tropical fruits of the myrtaceae in southern Florida by
Carl W. Campbell . I think known as monos plum . 1977.Says it is a large shrub.
Fruit is yellow,3-4 cm diam. with soft, juicy, slightly sweet pulp.
I beleve I  had one at  Florida ,IFAS years ago. I though maybe some one
 had some idea about it.
