I have this marked as M. aureana , but aren’t they supposed to stay green when ripe ? Fruits are about 3.5 cm .

104
Yes it can be done and not grafted ....

I am just back from a friend's ( commercial mangosteen grower ) place in the south , here’s how he does it :

Start with a good size plumb seed.
Prepare the medium with lots of organic stuff and mix in fertilizer .
Plant the seed in long tubes 10 cm wide , 40 cm long  mangosteen has a long taproot

Prepare the planting holes in advance with lots of organic material .
Once in the ground , fertilize frequently and water a lot .

Of course he has incredible good volcanic soil , constant humidity , lots of rain and temperatures that do not vary a lot , constant almost year round .

105
First fruiting , not a lot of seeds available . Send pm if interested .

Just curious ....I have some here that are supposed to be a superior / improved variety weighting an average of 65 grams .

108
I know nothing about figs , have only one tree that is doing very well in my climate ( comparable to South Florida )

I am under very heavy pressure from my wife , she treathens to cut down some of my rare stuff if I don’t plant more figs .....LOL...so lets hear from you .

109
Kinda similar climate as FL , long dry season ( 8 months )

110
Called CAPULIN by locals .... not the Capulin I am familiar with . Used for eating out of hand , for marmalades and wine .....

111
I have the impression that the B. argentea prefers a cooler climate than the armeniaca . I just planted a few argentea in the ground , full sun , they are suffering , OK the sun has been brutal but the armeniaca doesn’t mind .

What is your experience ?

112
I finally found the way to make my tree fruit ....

I have been whining and whining about this since I joined the TFF......it worked , no need to girdle or beat them with a bat etc.....just whine ..
I have been telling this tree “ Look at your buddy next to you ( a Jab. precoce ) 4th time flowering so far this year , and you ....nothing “

Well , it worked ...first flowers yesterday .

This year they are holding ...big clusters ...before it was a fruit or 3 here and there . Another week or so I guess before I can pick them , if the birds leave them alone that is ....

This month of May has been good , lots of fruit ....unfortunately most went to the birds and iguanas .

Raided by birds this month : 100% of the Rio grande cherries , 75 % of the E. mattosii and E.pitanga , 50% of the jaboticabas I guess they were full and couldn’t eat more ...

Raided by Iguanas : Anacardium humile , fortunately they do not ripen all at the same time . Today in desperation I picked some that were still yellow with just a hint of red and ate them , I was really surprised that even at this ‘ unripe ‘ stage they were excellent..

These are the sweet variety , not the spicy ones .

A friend here in Mexico who has thousands of fruiting ( now ) Bolivian Achachairu asked me if I could help to find a market .

115
I used to be a member of this group for several years and left the group a few years ago , since I left the group 99.9 % of all the spam I get is from Brazil ( including some pretty tempting messages from the other sex ) So that means that the owner of this group sold my email to spammers .

On the other side I must say that all the people I met In Brazil ( rare fruit related ) are the most delightful and trust-wordy to deal with , we all know who these are .....

116
In my case , when I started hearing about the Y2K in the beginning of the nineties , remember , computers were gonna crash and distribution of food may have become a problem for obvious reasons , I decided they’re not gonna get me I’ll start growing my own . Citrus , mango , papaya , avocados , sapotes , annonas etc are plentiful here and cheap so I wanted something other people didn’t have .
In those days I had a good paying real job so since I couldn’t find anything here I started to travel anytime I could get away to tropical places all over and filled my pockets with seed . Soon it became an obsession !!!! I wanted to grow them all ....and bought more land....
I started with Eugenia uniflora and have been selecting these , to end up with some great ones . Then came the Artocarpus , Garcinias , all the other Myrtaceae’s ...and again I had to buy more land ( did this 4 times , now I cannot ad anymore unless I buy someplace else )
My wife started to complain that all the vacations were fruit related , so I had to be more subtle in picking the next....( great shopping in Kuala Lumpur , she liked that ....) Then she wanted to see colors , so just to be a nice guy I started with Heliconias ...this is eating up 1/4 of my available planting area , but I must say it brings me more $$ than the fruits .
I have a sign in my office that says : NO MORE SEEDS .
I break my rules all the time .....

Looking forward to read your story .

117
Yes , the real thing , very sweet but a shy bearer . 5 cm wide .

No seeds available I am planting them all . Unless you brake my arm and bankrupt your savings account ...lol....

119

120
There will be about 50 seeds available in a week or 2 . Some of the fruits are starting to turn red now .
My favorite ( taste wise ) Anacardium  , dwarf plant .

Here’s a old picture .

121
I have a few 100 left for those who missed them .

122
Please tell me YES , in that case I finally managed to to germinate some after so many failures ...

123
Yesterday on one of the FB fruit pages a guy from Senegal posted a Saba senegalensis picture  . This immediately reminded me of a vine growing on the other side of the river behind my orchard , ripens in the summertime , rainy season , but since the river at that time is kinda wild I rarely cross so most of the time I miss the ripe fruits .

First pic is S. senegalensis

This is the fruit growing wild behind my orchard  in Mexico :

What do you think guys ?
