I love watching John's videos! He's always fun to watch. I bought azomite at a large nursery down in denver and have mixed in general heaps into my 'gritty mix' style mix that i'm using for all of my container plants..which in my case is everything tropical. Don't have any back to backs to compare with but nothing has immediately died as a result :-P

Are there any nonedible cactus fruits?

Yum those look tasty! I found some wild growing down in the south of my state, i split some fruit open to smell and they smelled great! Melony, sweet. I didn't eat any since i'm not too familiar with cactus.

Wow great description. I'd be interested in seed, or possibly even a whole fruit to taste if you'd ship :-)

Be sure to update this thread as time goes on.

Ate our first two fruits last weekend. Delish! Ours had a light strawberry sugary flavor that came in one punch then faded. Very tasty. Looking forward to having the chance to eat a whole handful at once.

I hate mealy bugs(on indoor plants anyways). They are easy to kill with rubbing alcohol but just when you are SURE they are gone for good, they pop up again in swarms lol. With outside plants we set the hose nozzle to jet and blast them off the plants.   8)8) 8) Works VERY well. do this frequently, then also go through with rubbing alcohol or oil to get the eggs.

Ashley and I made this recipe this week and what a treat  8) . In my mind I just could not imagine what an avocado pie would taste like, and with the cream cheese and the lime it's delish! Very heavy, just a little slice is plenty  ;) haha. About half way though eating the pie I decided to try it out with some hand made whipped cream on top and boy was that good too! Highly recommend you guys try that as well. Whipped cream was just heavy cream, confectioners sugar and a bit of vanilla in a stand mixer.

Uhh.. I planned on taking a photo but by the time I got the camera, the pie was eaten  ;D

Hi Luke,

That sure looks like Salak sprouting ;) 8)

 ;D ;D

I was in such a hurry to get seeds planted(since many had already sprouted) that I lost track of what went where haha. Thanks for the ID!!

Have a mislabeled(well in this case un-labeled) 2.5" square container with an unknown sprout coming up. For the life of me I can not think of what it could possibly be. Any help? Sorry for the poor photo.

Thanks

-Luke

EDIT: we can move this to Off-Topic if need be.

Congratulations, Jay...  But I'm with Stressbaby- this doesn't bode well for keeping my plant collection small.

I've been feasting on delicious jackfruit all summer (Mexican-grown ones are $1.69 a pound here in Colorado) and I've been planting the seeds to use for grafting practice.  I've intended to toss the plants when I'm done torturing them; I really don't have the room to fruit a jackfruit tree.

But now I have a dozen multi-rootstock jackfruit plants from my grafting practice and I too am tempted to find a dwarf cultivar to graft on just to see if I can grow one.  I've been eyeing the 'Ziman Pink' cultivar which is supposedly dwarf, tasty, and might be different enough from what I can get in the store to justify growing it.  (I have a standard rule of not growing anything I can get in a decent form in a local store-- it helps keep my collection at a more reasonable size.)

If anyone up north would like a multi-rootstock jackfruit seedling, PM me and I can send one your way...  I need to get rid of the majority of them before freezing temperatures hit in 6-8 weeks.

   Kevin

Haha poor poor Kevin. If I don't hear from you in a while i'll know it's because you got trapped in your grow room behind a huge Jack tree and can't get out!  ;D
