Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mystery Garcinia from southern Brazil
« on: November 14, 2017, 06:03:24 PM »
Between 2 and 4 years ago I received many Brazilian Garcinias which I spread around and surprisingly some are starting to fruit already. The label of this one was transposed incorrectly and its identity is unknown. It is larger than achachairu and sweeter and from what I am told it is better quality. Can anyone positively identify it?

It would be nice to know how big those trees are. What kind of fertilizer did the trees receive that they gave fruits so quickly?

Up to you!

I had several buyers from last year who reported back to me that they had good germination after following my advice of soaking seeds for 24 hours in 10% gibberlic acid solution. Another one reported back that he soaked seeds 48 hours in water and then planted in enriched soil with rock dust, and other ingredients.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / The elusive Yara Yara
« on: July 18, 2017, 02:56:22 PM »
Hi all,
This year I found a tree of Yara Yara outside the forest in an open standing it is considerably shorter. I would say 8 to 10meters.  Some fruits are big and some small. It has to be seen if under cultivated conditions fruit size will be more uniform. Taste is very sweet and delicious with an Apricot flavor
12 Euro/seed. Shipping EMS
I also have Annona amazonica and Annona spraguei 2,20 Euro/seed

Sure,Annona hypoglauca is a small tree. <it spreads more horizontally than vertically. tHE FRUIT IS somehow a bit like Annona spraguei. High seed ratio less pulp but has a pleasant sweet taste. Size is a big biggerr than an egg.
Claudia is a nice fruit. When fully ripe it is blacjk sweet with a slight acid taste and it reminds a bit of plums. Tree is small high yields. Size of fruit like 11-2 inch long and half inch wide. good pulp fruit ratio only one sweed.
Pouteria same but taste different seeds are bigger and less pulp, Sweet with and interersting flavour.ç+
Duguetia quitarensis sweet pulp around seeds nice flavour. beautiful tree like christmas tree height up to 15 TO 20 METERS

Tropical Fruit Discussion / The Best Breadfruits
« on: April 08, 2017, 10:57:07 AM »
Hi all,
I would like to get some Input from all of u as to what u consider to be the best Breadfruit cultivars.
I am interested in Breadfruit flour as it is highly nutritious and has no gluten.
I came across the Breadfruit Institute (http://ntbg.org/breadfruit/)
Their collection contains 226 accessions and approximately 120 varieties from 34 islands in the Pacific (Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Kiribati, the Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Rotuma, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga and Vanuatu), as well as Indonesia, the Philippines, the Seychelles and Honduras. Out of which they have 20 selected some dwarf varieties

These 20 varieties are a small sample of the amazing diversity found in the world's largest collection of breadfruit at the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii. Some are varieties considered desirable or superior, a few are unique to their islands of origin, and others are widely cultivated in the Pacific Islands and elsewhere. These and other varieties together can provide a year-round supply of nutritious fruit.
http://ntbg.org/breadfruit/database/search/selected/

Unfortunately it it is almost impossible to import some plants to Ecuador or requires a lot of finance and paperwork. Does anyone have some of those cultivars willing to share seeds?
Thanks
