Recipes / What to do with Jujube juice?
« on: August 02, 2014, 05:08:55 PM »
I just steam juiced two quarts of jujube juice in the steam juicer but just can't find a recipe to make jelly. Anyone have a recipe for jujube jelly?
I normally just eat them fresh but I have so many this year that I decided to juice some, but I must say that the juice is not nearly as tasty as eating the fruit.
A recipe for dehydrating them would also be appreciated.

I think it's brilliant. Helps with gout and kills Citrus greening. What more could you ask for?

Do other countries have HLB  as bad as we do? Is this a new disease or just new to the USA? You would think that if it is this devastating to citrus that it would have wiped out the citrus everywhere.

Citrus General Discussion / Miewa Kumquat

I know kumquats bloom later than my other citrus but this one is just now starting to bloom now at the end of June. We did have a late spring this year so I was just wondering if anyone else is seeing late blooming.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: High Density Home Orchard
« on: June 07, 2014, 09:53:53 PM »
My citrus orchard was planted high density so that I could use my shop and tractor shed as a north wind brake. Spacing was 11 feet between trees and 20 feet between rows. It doesn't take long for the trees to interlock branches at the 11 foot spacing. I don't know yet if I will prune between trees. One advantage is they block sunlight where grass doesn't grow between them. Now there is just enough room between the 20' row spacing to drive a gold cart through.
The limbs of my citrus are touching the ground and I am still reluctant to trim them. Ironic in that I trim all other trees in my orchard but for some unknown reason I just don't like to trim citrus.

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Root stock seed

Thanks Mr. Bonnie but I already ordered trifoliate from EBay. What prompted me to do this was a visit to Lows where I saw citrus at $30 a piece. I believe that I can make a few bucks doing a little grafting.

Seedling, Big Jim and McBeth. The seedlings were older and did much better. One thing that I noticed is that the Big Jim and McBeth flowered later which may have contributed to the cold damage

I am looking at harvest bags and would like recommendations. So far the Hoss picking bucket looks like the way to go. Any suggestions?

With all of the cold weather it was a terrible year for Loquats. I barely picked a gallon and a half from six trees. Maybe next year will be better!
