marang is one, I've had several fruits from various trees in hawaii and while the flavor is still there the sugary sweetness is lacking compared to ones I've had here in Davao.

I've heard similar for black sapote, more sweet in Mexico,,,

any others you know of? ....

Tropical Fruit Discussion / fruits today2
« on: July 08, 2014, 06:58:25 PM »
similar to last week, the black sapotes are ripening, picked more. coconut, mamey sapote, small durian, 2 different varieties of passionfruit, avocado, guava, rollinia, which have been getting stung so i pick them early, an unknown jackfruit from seed, was overripe though by the time i got to it today, I picked another one that should ripen in a couple days, a fairly large soursop probably about 6 pounds, the smaller papayas are sweeter, but i like a big Thai one for breakfast. the smaller ones are probably mostly strawberry or hybrids.. cheers

what is everyones experience with planting jackfruit from seed? I have seen a lot of variation in quality from seedling trees, some producing fruit that never ripens, some producing fruits of subpar quality, or some not producing fruit at all. Then I have heard of a couple people having seedling trees produce in a year or 2. I'm sure whether or not its a seedling from a grafted tree plays a part in whether or not a seedling will be successful, is it true that a grafted tree's fruit seed will be more true to the rootstock?

This tree is about 3 years old and produces nicely.., this is the last fruit off of it this cycle, but it seems like a great producer already. It's an orange fleshed/ soft kind and I don't know which fruit tree it was planted from... It rooted out of its pot in the nursery area, it also has another seedling friend growing next to it, you can see growing out the main canopy to the right.. I wonder if plants like to be planted like this, there must be a symbiotic relationship. the small seedling is starting to fruit already too, which I think must be its first time, it looks younger than the main tree there. I'll take pictures of the inside of this fruit tomorrow when I open it. I picked it soft on the tree today but I didn't have much of an appetite for it today.
