Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Sri Gading Chempadak Relative
« on: June 27, 2017, 10:17:05 PM »
the chempejack he does have is labeled "nangka dak"  -from the pic, i don't notice any fuzz/hairs on the stem/leaves which would indicate its chempedak. hybrids don't have the fuzz. i would call or ask them more about it next time you're at their place.

animals, especially goats require a lot of attention. personally, i would focus more on growing. one thing that comes before starting a farm obviously is starting a nursery, unless you will be direct sowing vegetable seeds in your beds. eventually you could have some nursery sales alongside your sales from vegetables. if you want to farm more than say an acre you'll need a tractor. plant sun hemp or something then till into the soil and apply fertilizer/compost to insure you are starting with good soil. its not going to be easy or profitable at first but if you are determined enough you can make it work. try growing something that there will be demand for in the markets. celery is good one for here in hawaii since most people don't bother growing it, it requires a lot of water and attention but the demand for it is there. btw, the whole idea of permaculture to me isn't about having a profitable business so much but its more about homesteading. you'll need to decide for yourself are you doing this from a business perspective or because you want to live more sustainably? if the business side is what drives you then you may have a successful /profitable farm. if the sustainability aspect is what drives you the most about it you may find yourself just scraping by but always having the pleasures of being on your farm. a permaculture farm can be profitable for sure but it will take 10-15 years to establish a good one

the thing with meli kalima is its good but its not worth it to most people. frank supplies some of the local grocery stores and the price in the store is maybe 6.99/lb, (he sell his for $5/lb at his farm) In the stores they just sit and go bad. i see this happens with jackfruit for him too, he sells for around $2.50/lb then most people are not wanting to buy a $50 jackfruit

Does white lady have any bitterness or more milky cream sweet? I tried ganyao once in davao and puangmanee once too. I totally agree on only having durian one or two times a day. It's so heavy, it's not the easiest food to digest. Any other fruits you got to try that are worth mentioning  ?

Most are around one pound but some are pound and a half. Flavor isn't anything too special Or unique, it's not too far off from tasting like a manzanilo or rapoza but I'm  pretty certain it's neither , manzillo are usually not as much variance in size. They are usually late season too. it doesn't look like a rapoza and their are some fibers.

In Hawaii. I can list a few varieties it's not : cogshall, Glenn, van dyke, rapoza, manzanilo,  ah ping, and it's obviously not pirie or Julie. I'm pretty sure it's not excel either. Anyone ?
