Yes, a worthwhile undertaking.  Looking forward to these new creations.  (Hoping they might grow in Florida!)

I know of a variety called Triumph and also South Florida. I have not seen Triumph for many years and S Florida is available wholesale from Zill in WPB. Good Luck.
I bought my Triumph from you six years ago when you were at Yellow Green Market in Hollywood.  It's remained a small tree, but I like the fruit.  The fruit is larger and better than South Florida, which bears heavily.  I'd love to plant Winterset also.

Very nice!  I didn't know Viet Nam was cool enough to grow those varieties.  I guess I thought the whole country was very hot and humid.

A lot may still fall off and not mature.  It's early.

I've read on this forum that Pinkerton has been grown successfully in Florida, especially if you get north of Miami-Dade County.

I was at Zill’s today. Juana took care of me. I bought 20
of the best mango trees. I asked about Orange Sherbert
She said that they were discontinuing Lemon Zest
and they will start selling Orange Sherbert in its place.
Today is Friday March 9, 2018
This is 100% the G-ds honest truth. Juana did not say when but thought sometime
Before the end of the year.
They don't sell one or two trees, do they?  What would be the smallest purchase? 20 trees, like you bought?

Any difference in pruning atemoya?  Or would you follow the same general guidelines?

Another mango that everyone kept raving about , and one which was hard to get, was the Angie. I have one in the ground and it is fruiting for the first time this year. Has a lot of pretty looking fruits on it now. I got it based on the hype and i hope I won't be disappointed.
I planted Angie as well, based on Richard Campbell's promoting it so grandly.  It's a good mango--beautiful large fruit, smooth and fiberless, acceptable flavor, manageable tree.  But nothing I would ever recommend based on flavor alone.  Carrie has got to be sweeter.

Funny how it was all the rage about six or seven years back, considered one of the very best mangos by forum members.  Now it's been relegated to a second tier position.  I guess it's still one of the prettiest mangos, and the tree is definitely compact and manageable.  Waiting for mine to bear--no fruit set this year.

Hopefully we get some of the better atemoya varieties from California to plant here.  The ones JF is growing.  Supposedly almost as good as cherimoyas ;D.  Let's work on that, Johnny!

I found this from October 07, 2015, concerning Taralay:
Its a Julie seedling.  Moderate vigor.  Mid season.  Not available to the public at this time.

Taralay is a awesome mango..... totally underrated
I agree...its delicious

Totally agree as well! Made my top 5 list last year 🤓
What is its season in general--early, mid, or late?  Is it a big tree or compact?

So how does Orange Essence compare?

I have not tasted Orange Essence, but my favorite among the others that Har and Marlys spoke about is Cotton Candy. That is an amazing mango. I also wonder why more people are not talking about Seacrest and Ugly Betty.
What's the flavor like besides super-sweet?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Best of the New Zill Mangos (Truly Tropical)
« on: February 26, 2018, 07:06:08 PM »
I watched all three videos on Truly Tropical's YouTube Channel in which Har Mahdeem and Marlys Zill discuss the new Zill varieties, and their favorites seem to be Peach Cobbler, Juicy Peach, Fruit Punch, Cotton Candy, and Orange Essence although they had good things to say about the others.  By the way, do we have any idea if Zill will release Orange Sherbert, which is a favorite of Richard Campbell?

I'm looking for the best tasting, easy to care for CADO for South Florida...(Broward County)
Thanks South Florida Peeps
I don't think we've found it yet!  Oro Negro is good, but it has a huge seed, and so far for me it hasn't borne a lot of fruit.  Sure wish we had somewhere in South Florida that was growing and experimenting with dozens of varieties like UCR does in California.  Carlos in Homestead was doing his best, and then apparently Hurricane Irma wiped him out.

Yes, pawpaw, that would work.  But I've never had the opportunity to taste one.

How about Dream?
Won't grow outdoors in Kentucky!

Keep in mind that these cherimoyas don't grow in the mountains, but rather in semi-tropical valleys with elevations of around 6600 ft. (like Mizque in Bolivia), where it doesn't snow.  My wife is from Bolivia, and I confirmed this with her.  So if you were thinking they might grow in Kentucky, that wouldn't be the case.

OK, please explain MBBS and "the rot," and how it's going to affect mango growing in South Florida going forward.  Are we going to lose mangos like we lost citrus???

Too many Santa Ana events this past year.

I lost >90% of my stone fruit fruitlets in April. I finally got to taste my royal Lee and Minnie royal cherries - all 2 of them that I could salvage. No pluerries, cherry plums, only 3 splash Pluto’s, can’t remember the others but total loss.

Then end of September had Santa Ana winds wind burn most of my avocados as they are in pots. Still recovering with lots of TLC

Then the past 2 weekends I have done more than 40 graftso including multiple avocado and stone fruit. Next day we have Santa Ana’s for 2 days.  Hopefully something takes.

My pinkertons are in bloom but I’m missinge bees this year. I don’t see too many around the yard.

K
So have the Santa Ana winds increased in frequency and intensity in recent years?

Thank you all.  I'm willing to take a chance on a Dream.  Anyone know where I can find one?
