Since they both thrive in California, I maintain that you should go with the superior-tasting fruit, which is fig.  Loquats are pleasant, but that's about all I can say for them.  Figs can be knock-your-socks-off great, a top-tier fruit (if you like them, of course).  I can't grow figs in the ground, due to RKN, but yeah, I should try in pots.

Forecast is now 40 for Thursday night in DB.  Bring it on!  Glad that winter is not gone for good.

If you're asking which is the better fruit, I think you'd have to be totally nuts to think that loquat is better than fig!

Now what was it again that makes Birula a super-Lisa?  Size of fruit, bearing habit, flavor, texture?

Once you get an Alano in the ground it grows pretty quick if you take care of it.

I second this..had an Alano in a pot for a couple years and now that it's been in the ground for a couple years its taken off...and at any given moment the tree is flushing, flowering and fruiting all at the same time ...really a workhorse of a tree.
Agree!  Love that tree and fruit.

Mine have always had a dormant period in winter and then vigorous growth in spring.

Carlos in Homestead had a Greengold tree.  He was reporting on it as of July.  Hopefully it survived the hurricane.

If the lychee is only a few years old, it can be moved successfully.  It's been done at my house.

It would appear that the Coochie Island Atemoya is the variety named Island Gem that originated on the island of Coochie mudlo island in Brisbane moreton bay...... Why do nurseries need to give plants new names ???????              Mike

Where did you find it, Dan?  Is it a new variety?  The yellow tag looks like it could be "Just Fruits and Exotics."  I didn't think they carried mamey sapote.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cherimoya prices skyrocketing

Frankly cherimoyas have always been really expensive in California. I remember 30 years ago when i lived there they sold for 5-6 dollars a pound. A lot higher priced than now if you figure in that the dollar was worth a lot more back then. But i was pleasantly surprised when i moved to Hawaii and found them for 2-3 dollars a pound. I don't really understand why because they are not widely grown here either.
True.  Back in the 80's they were that expensive.

sounds like a great resource I will definatly use it, but they don't seem to have compost, compost is broken down mulch so it's quite different material, any sources for good fresh local compost?
What city do you live in?  Naples?  Some cities offer free compost, like Plantation.

Cool winters help mango production, right?  We may no longer see cool winters.

You poor thing.  Have you seen a doctor?

Exotica nursery in vista will have lemon zest and sweet tart.  I got the last coconut cream from them two months a go.  I know they can order more.

What do they use as rootstock?  From whom do they order?

What then would be a good alternative to Fl Hass? Wurtz or something else?
Maybe Oro Negro?  (But does it bear consistently, and not alternately?)

I still have so many things to try, but so far here are my favorites.

1. Mangosteen
2. Durian
3. Blackberries and Huckleberries
4. Jackfruit
5. Pomegranate
Interesting list.  What do you think of mango and cherimoya?
