My mom dug this picture out of a stack of boxes. She said I use to plant watermelon seeds from our store bought watermelons when I was 4. She said one day she saw me bring my red wagon to the backyard, so she followed me and took this picture..:)

Come on, Mike...that is you now.  Just admit it, its ok :)

Ha!....I do wish I had a pair of overalls like that now!

In South Florida do they ever grow out of the dropping fruit stage?
How old is the one you have dropping fruit?

i thought i would get something this year but, Hak Ip, Emperor, and Mauritius did nothing but vegetative growth. I saw how Berto girdled his lychees and he has fruit on all his girdled branches. I'll definitely be trying that next year.

I have been growing annonas for over 25 yrs and except for Atemoyas, I have found them to be very true to seed. I have noticed that grafted sugar apples are very slow growers and since they fruit in 3 years from seed, grafted trees are not worth the trouble....

no atemoyas  :o

Adam
Regarding Atemoyas, what I meant is that they will not be true to seed, because they are a hybrid. I have fruited several cultivars and they are among the BEST annonas.

Has anyone tried fruiting a random Atemoya seed and got something decent? It would definitely be variable but there is a chance of something good, right?

Has anyone used this before? I picked some up a while back to use in combination with my foliar feelings but the label stated it was for herbicides and pesticides... I mixed some into my foliar spray the other day and haven't noticed any ill side effects...just wondering of I got the wrong product?

I just found two more pop up after a year in some soil I reused for a jackfruit seedling. So now I have %100 germination on 50 seeds. I have one that I planted in full sun right after germination that is growing the fastest. It's planted along my canal bank and has ten leaves on it so far. All my other ones have between 2-6 leaves. Over watering in pots causes mine to 'pout' or get droopy. These are definitely a resilient and tough plant.

wow..those are great neighbors to have...they plant a tree that dumps hundreds of dollars worth of rare tropical fruit into your yard!

let me know when I can come raid the tree..I'll give you a 20 bill... ;D
Yeah, I guess these are newer neighbors, of carribean decent, yet they didn't plant this tree, it was planted before they moved in. If you look to the rear of the tree in the pic there is also an avocado dumping into his yard. He told me he'd let me know when the soursop are ripening, as he doesn't care fore them…maybe you'll be in the area then...

Here is a nice Soursop tree growing in my buddy's backyard, well, fell into his backyard. This tree was approx 15-20 feet last year before it bent over with fruit into this backyard. It's loaded with fruit and is pretty easy to eat out of hand. I tried some fruit off it last year, I'll try to send out some scions this year to couple forum members.

I know this has been discussed before but I see a sharp contrast between my A. diversifolia and all other Annonas when it comes to flowering. Last year I had only a few flowers show themselves even after defoliation of diversifolia. This could have been be due to the young age of the tree. My 'Genova Red' which is over 6ft tall by around 6ft wide has never produced a flower by itself without assistance. This year was seemingly no different. In an attempt to get some fruit set this year I tried stressing the tree, by eliminating all water, and dropping plenty of K and micros. Still, nothing…So when it began growing in leaps and bounds I decided to start stripping leaves again…This year it seems nearly ever leaf I've stripped has produced a flower. My 'Pajapita' is pushing flowers too after stripping. Though all my other annonas were pushing flowers already and setting fruit, I decided to strip some of their leaves also. Though my other annonas did push flowers it was only about 1 in 5 strips producing a flower. I really hope I get to try an Ilama this year!

Wow! This thread diverted! :o Nice looking tree Patrick! I have definitely seen a leap in growth in my trees since instituting your fert regime, though haven't been as consistent...this is some good motivation! Let me know when the taste testing is or u may wake up to an empty mango tree! :)

Get another Atemoya if the one you have isn't growing well...maybe it's a rootstock issue...

I had the same issue with a couple of my jackfruits. Har was over and said that older leaves turning yellow and dropping is possibly a sign of the tree needing nitrogen. My Excalibur red is planted in my old garden patch and doesn't show these signs, probably because I used to dump black kow manure all over the garden.

At station two, we have a Mauritius lychee, Marcus pumpkin avo, a seven foot tall seedling avo that we hope will put out good fruits... No plans to graft on to it now, we have nine or ten smaller avo seedlings that we will graft with various Hawaiian cultivars, a Multi grafted citrus, an Excalibur Mamey and magana Mamey. On the back patio is a jaboticaba surrounded by sweet pepper plants, tomatoes, and carrots. We also have several banana mats starting... From dwarf cavendish, to a black cavendish variety I got from a Cuban, plantains, dwarf namwah. And another dwarf variety that has only grown  a foot in two years, despite all the ones next to it growing multiple feet and shooting out pups. My goal this year was to get several trees and the fertilizer to take care of them, and it was approved. It helps that on my shift there is another ff who likes fruit trees and veggies, and another ff on another shift that tends to the herb garden we have outside the kitchen
:) good stuff! Can't wait for 5 years to go by.....

If that is a five foot high fence they should be far enough apart as I guestimate, on the other hand how often is the ficus hedge treated for whitefly.
That's an eight foot high fence...not sure about the ficus and whitefly? I figured why not plant something, it makes my 24 hour shifts go by easier when I surround myself with fruit trees.

Mike - are all the trees planted as close together as seen in the picture?   VP and the macadamia will get large and the PPK is pretty vigorous also.  My guess is Juicy Peach may also get large  basing on its TA parentage.
Rob, they are approx 15-18ft apart....I thought that would be enough...maybe I'm wrong? I have the macadamian in a different area without anything else around. I also have 5 Crunchy Lemon Jackfruit seedlings in the ground. Maybe CWOJO here on the forum will weigh in on what he has planted at Boynton Beach fire station #2...I've donated a few trees to his cause...

Here's an update.. a total of 7 ilama grafts took…3 failed…I seem to have more success with veneer grafts. 4 Genova Red and 3 Pajapita in total.

This one below I did one scion wrapped in buddy tape and the other unwrapped…they both took just fine...
