Going thru my granddad's notes, this evening, he mentions a 'Wester' and a 'Mekong', both varieties are polyembryonic and came from and 'Edward' x 'Pico'.  Does Richard know of the parentage for the 'Wait' and 'OTM'?

Looks exactly like the fruit in the link that BMc provided!  Turns yellowish when ripe.  Propagate by seed, cuttings, air-layering?  Old tree, tall and storm damaged.  Mixed in with the tamarinds, java plums, carambola and martin sapodilla.  Thanks for the ID on this tree.  Would like to salvage this one, very interesting to see how the fruit just grows out of the trunk on pedicles.

Thanks all for your responses.  I missed the name of the tree was I was a young'n, probably wasn't paying attention.  A fairly tall and scraggly tree now, should i propagate it by seed, air-layering, cuttings?

LOL,  I wasn't named after two mango cultivars, I chose that forum name after PIN dissed my granddad's work and came up with their tall tale.

One of the original 'Duncan" trees.  Hasn't been pruned except by a few storms.  45 plus years old.  Excellent fruit, I would rank it right up there with an 'Edward'.  Very resistant to anthracnose, good producer.

Another neglected tree in corner of grove, don't know it's ID.

Thanks, Rob--Will go with Brown Sugar.  A 60 year old tree just doing it's thing in the corner of the yard, playing second fiddle to the mangos.

Texture is brown sugary and slightly granular.  6 black seeds.

Trying to identify this sapodilla variety, planted in the 1950's.  Could this be a "Martin".  Brown sugar inside and tasty.

What a shame.  Been fighting the two-legged varmints in South Florida for years, cutting through our # 9 chain link fencing and helping themselves.  Does Havahart company makes traps big enough for these rustlers?  Hope they catch 'em.

Berto, I have the same tank and sprayer from NH.  Do you use a 12 volt, RV/Deep Cycle type battery?

The folks that run Pine Island Nursery still have me steamed over the name change of the patented 'Young' mango.  Now that they have the facts, they refuse to call it by the correct name.  Talking about a marketing ploy!

I really don't remember the 'Young' being very sweet.  I hope to sample again this summer, haven't had one in a while.  Liked the 'Duncan' and 'Edwards' much better, but will compare again.

Hey, a good way to roughly figure how big your pot is by using the formula for gallons in a cylinder:

Volume = Pi x radius squared x length

Say we have a container that has a diameter of 22 inches and a height of 33 inches,  how many gallons in this pot?

Gallons = 3.14 x 11 inches squared x 33 inches tall
= 12538.02 cubic inches      (There are 231 cubic inches per gallon, so divided by 231 to get gallons.)

            = 54.27 gallons

Hope this helps--
Jack

Yes, I do have copies.  Have had to search on Abesbooks to find extra copies.  Very interesting reading.

Looks like you have the scion covered with poly bag and then foil 1/2 covering the bag, or is the foil peeled back for photo purposes and usually completely covering the bag?  Good looking plants!  Hope they take.
