I know of a variety called Triumph and also South Florida. I have not seen Triumph for many years and S Florida is available wholesale from Zill in WPB. Good Luck.

Gary,

Great info you shared.

Bottom line labor is the big issue!

Thanks,

Hi Shot,

You got me excited about making some coffee from my trees. Lots of people don't believe that Coffee can grow here in Florida. Meanwhile quite a few people are growing them. Do you grow the trees in containers? Full sun part shade? What about the cold weather?

Are you on Facebook? Check out this new group that is for Florida Coffee Growers.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/floridacoffeegrowers/

Your coffee sounds really good!

Have a great night.

6
So you grow coffee arabica in Florida Shot? How does it taste?

7
Alexandre,

That coffee looks great and nice roast.
I sent you a Friend Request on FB today.

I really would love to get my hands on a few of those new hybrids you mentioned.

Take care.

Would prefer seedlings if possible. Montoso in PR is not shipping plants just seed. I just saw the post about Catui in Brazil not very resistant to Leaf rust. My plan is to grow coffee as a hobby here in South Florida. With that said I would prefer to get the Catucaí IAC 6/30 and the Catucaí 785/15.

Thank you everyone here is great!

I agree. Rats are pretty smart about not eating seeds that are poisonous to them. They wouldn't eat them unless they are masked by grinding them and mixing them with something else they really like. Also i doubt that even if they ate the seeds that the seeds would be instantly lethal. Maybe they got parkinson's from eating the fruit, got very shaky and wobbly, and couldn't get out of the bucket?  ;)

I just laughed my ass off! Thanks I needed that! Shaky and wobbly oh my!! ;)
Peace.

Most people have commented that the rats drowned. Especially on my You Tube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ggpalms
Next time I will toss some mango or other fruit in the bucket half filled with water and see what happens. Video coming soon!
We shall see. ;D

Pepe, have you been catching more rats with this method?

No I don't do this on a regular basis. It was just a one time experiment. Anyone else try it yet?

Take care.

This is one of several links you can find.

Here is a little research on the subject from my web site:

What do you do for the psyllids? I see them all over the place now.

That's a tough one to control in California because as I understand many pesticides are outlawed. Here we use a few different systemics that do a fair job. I don't sell citrus trees because I wont use those systemics. Florida law requires the treatment if you sell citrus trees. I grow organic and very rarely use synthetic pesticides.

I have six different citrus at home for personal use. They are maintained with Neem, Pyrethrum, Spinosad and good mineral and compost based nutrition. So far so good! About three years now and we have nice fruit. Key Limes, Meyers Lemons, Persian Limes, Wekiwa Tangelo and two Valencia Orange trees.

My advice is to contact your local extension service on what to use and how often. Then decide if you like the poison and can live with it?

This is a touchy subject and I don't want to go to deep into the discussion. You will be amazed at how toxic in my opinion citrus fruits are becoming in Florida due to the psyllid problem. We treat the trees basically as AIDS patients with heavy doses of mineral cocktails to build immunity. Good luck do your research.

Spinosad will control the leafminer and many other insect pests as well. It works similarly to BT but more effective in my opinion.

The Spinosad should be used no more than six times per year. That is what the label states!

You can also use Pheromone Citrus leaf miner specific traps. I don't sell them but many other garden centers do.

Good luck and keep in mind that the Asian Citrus Psyllid is a bigger headache!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Saltwater as an organic fertilizer
« on: March 09, 2013, 08:36:23 AM »
Worm Castings, Rabbit manure, Liquid Seaweed, Fish Emulsion and plenty of rain water.
Good quality compost from a variety of greens and browns brought to us from Mother Nature.
Keep it simple and start thinking sustainability.
Circle of life!
