34 Citrus in Pots(man i got it bad lol)..........in a spread of plastic and terracotta........temps are 35C consistently now but terracotta goes well........6 citrus trees in the ground going nicely.......some dodgy in the pots........Kensington pride mango in ground going well.......3 blueberry in pots going ok.........3 pomegranite with fruits......5 papaya in pots...6 figs in pots...2 feijoa not going so well..20 chillis in pots...Two dwarf apples and one custard apple....loquart and several seedlings...lebanese cucumbers in ground......tomatoes and strawberries i have absolutely no success with....too evil hot.....worm farm......needs looking after but i am trying my best....we get real problem with citrus leaf miner over here...terrible........been present since spring and all through the summer now.......spraying with neem oil has been the only way to control them.

Hi from Perth western Australia...........We are in the middle of winter over here.........Most of my citrus are in terracotta pots and some are inground.......I read somwhere that when temps get below 14C the roots stop growing and become dormant.........well.....thats not happeneing to my late navel.......its putting out fresh feeder roots just below the surface(but no top growth).......also my eureka lemon and my lemonade are all putting out new top growth at this time.......I have a huge tangelo enjoying the temps below 10C(@night) that help fruits to ripen........Daytime temps are up to 18/19C and night time 3/4/5/6/7 C ........
                     so the quote "when temps go below 14C roots become dormant " is a bit vague here ...because in the day its above 14C but at night its not........I also believe that top growth tends to be dormant with most citrus in winter except lemons of some form but i reckon they are all still doing roots during the winter.............which brings me to my strange kind of question......which influenece root growth more ....Photosynthesis or respiration?........Could they be growing roots via Photosynthesis during the day ...when temps are above 14C ?
I certainly helped the cause,by giving them "seasol".....seaweed tonic to help stimulate new root growth........any thoughts?

Two items of concern.........the first one is..
1...i repotted many citrus trees recently from a 300mm pot to a 400 mm pot......most of them are behaving normally but one seems to be drying out in the rootball but the area around the side of the pot is staying wet on my moisture meter........need i worry about this? I water evenly when i water ......is there anything i can do to keep the mix evenly moist ?
the second one is two types of leaf curl........the small leaves are off my lime and imperial manderin.......they are both curving down and around.........could this be potassium deficency?
the other bigger leaf is off my japanese seedless........this is cupping up and around......what could be causing that? or is that normal.............
I have been feeding with organics and water when the mix dries to moist....................any help appreciated........it has been very hot here and now its sitting around 25/26C......Thanks Jon

custard apple                        all dwarfs except the custard apple............going well despite the 40C heat

I dont know where i got this idea from but here goes= I bought a feijoa tree(Pineapple guava) the other day and it had two other large branches.....so i decided to try to grow roots from these two branches while still on the tree.......i scrapped the bark off....put some rooting gel on them and then surrounded them with soil and then cling filmed it as per pic................I am hoping i will see some roots appear through the film(given time)....................am i dreaming or is what i am up to possible? Do grasshoppers eat the leaves of Citrus? ......I have been finding a few on my plants and i am suspicious of them feeding on the leaves.

I have used slow release ferts on my potted citrus and always seem to burn them..................I am feeling more inclined ...just to liquid feed them when they are actively growing ....like they are now in autumn.......should i use a chemical fert with an NPK 5.1.3 plus minors or use an organic fert such as liquid blood and bone ?..........Thanks

I have just transplanted two papayas(red bisexual) into my garden.............The soil is very sandy.....so i added some potting mix to the planting hole and have put a good layer of mulch over them...........the temps are in the 30C all the time now....today it was 35C......they are both in full sun and are about a metre tall...................I watered in with seasol but i am wondering how often i should be watering these puppies?
My thouhts have been twice a day? the leaves look droopey in the day.........maybe i should even water 3 times a day?
at present i water in the morning and evening.......I havent fed them at all.......only been in 3 days........any advice appreciated.

This has to be one of the yellowest leaves i have ever had off any of my citrus.....pretty impressive !

Hi everyone....all  my citrus are busy putting out new growth now......but two of my mandarins have curling leaves......they are last years leaves and they are putting out healthy new growth.......when i say curling....I do not mean "cupping"............they are curling back under themselves...........any idea what is causing that please?...........all my other trees are fine......except my okitsu which has yellow lower leaves and is still dormant.
