Never bought from them. BUT I've heard lots of crap about them. They have nice looking trees in their YouTube videos, but I have seen a lot of bad reviews on the web. Probably an indicator you shouldn't bother with them. Maybe they've changed by now..

Are those the young dudes that make their videos, kind of avante guard, ? think I have come across those videos on youtube.
Their videos are pretty wild lol. I came across them about 5 years ago. I was wondering where they got all those "models" from. :o XD XD

Citrus General Discussion / What to graft on to lemon rootstock
« on: March 05, 2017, 12:24:02 AM »
I have a seedling lemon tree that I want to graft onto. It is from a standard grocery store lemon. (Lisbon?) What citrus varieties will take? I am new to how citrus grafting works.

154
Aww man. Lack of humidity? Too close to the light? Could be a lot of factors. Seeds would take a long time too grow a fruiting plant. I've got a pomegranate seedling that I started 5 years ago that hasn't flowered yet. (Possibly from a lack of chill hours.) :P Maybe you could grow them from cuttings. They are pretty easy to find on eBay or maybe even a forum member. You can get fruits in less than 1/2 the time it'd take growing from seeds! If mine doesn't fruit soon, I just might invest in some cuttings.

Looks like Couroupita guianensis- Canonball tree
Pretty flowers, but I don't think people usually eat the fruits.
Also related to the Brazil nut and Paradise nut.

My Malay Apple is finally having a wholesale bloom.

That's great. :) Is it a grafted tree or from seed? Also, has it bloomed/fruited ever before? What do you think of the fruits (If you've tried Malay apple before. I want to propagate it, but I need a seed source and I don't know how much humidity they require.

Anisha, I believe the tree is grafted and I have enjoyed a few fruits for the last 2 years. The taste is a mild pleasant rose water flavor--refreshing on a hot day. They become big trees probably not suited for a green house, however, there have been reports of precocious varieties. Here are a couple links:

Should have some seeds soon. PM me it you are interested.

Yeah, I don't think it would be practical. Gotta upsize the greenhouse lol.

What is the scientific name  ?
Looks like Glycosmis pentaphylla aka orange berry/ gin berry. They are related to citrus. :o

How much? Would you be interested in trading for viable seeds of the lemon guava?
I sent you a pm. :D

Hey, I love your Instagram! I was thinking about sending a DM to you guys about seeds, but I wasn't sure if you had the ability to send them without the risk of them getting confiscated!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Have: Mexican cream guava seeds
« on: March 01, 2017, 10:49:22 PM »
Recently had some Mexican cream guavas. They were really good compared to other occasions that I've had them. Creamy texture, sweet and aromatic flesh, suprisingly few seeds, and much bigger than the ones I've had in past years. I have treated them with H202 to prevent mold (and possibly speed up germination). I have them for sale or trade.
Pm if interested!

Hey, welcome to the forum! :) You could easily grow some guavas. They grow in pots and won't get too big. I have seeds of Mexican cream guava. The fruits were large, not too seedy, and were very aromatic. If you want some, just pm me.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Passiflora ligularis
« on: March 01, 2017, 02:21:33 PM »
That's cool that you got to try P. ligularis. Was it aromatic? I've never seen them in any international markets near me. Only P. edulis in purple and yellow at the grocery stores. But since I have a greenhouse, I can propagate them. I have had the opportunity to try some candies and juices with its flavoring, but little juice is actually used. Did you keep any seeds to try to grow? Idk if they'd thrive where you are, but why not try. :D
They didn't really have an aroma, but it was very delicious, and I did save a lot of seeds and already planted a few. Fingers crossed that they sprout. They just recently started to appear in fruit markets in the Downtown Los Angeles area
Well as long as they weren't irradiated, I'd think they would sprout. They're fresh, so that's an advantage. For Passifloras with super acidic pulp, I just plant the seeds with the jelly sac around it. The acidity breaks down the hard seed covering.

Is there a reason I've been blocked from messaging? Not cool.
Guyyyys! be nice. :P
He disabled his pm system some time ago. It says it underneath the post by Flying Fox Fruits. (The one posted above your comment.) I think he just takes emails now. It is probably easier for him to handle just emails and not multiple means of communication. I hope you are a patient person, because he is a busy man. And ordering from him takes time, because its all run just by him. I have yet to order from FFF, but I hear his plants are awesome!! So If you're willing to wait, take a number lol.

Yep. Seeds obtained from Oscar and planted by me. I wrote the "magni" you see on the side of the container. I gave some away to a few people!
Are they dioecious? Some sites say yes, others don't specify.

Why not grow some dwarf like mangos
Pickering, Cogshall, Honey Kiss
Skan- I was looking to get a mango cultivar or two. Would they do well in fabric pots? I kind of want to try fabric pots. Any mail order-type sites that can ship to me that you think are good?

I'm going to try some in fabric pots too. Make sure you get raise the bottoms so they have a chance to get air prunned.
I'm in mango country so unfortunately I cant help with the mail order stuff.
I could possibly graft a small seedling and send it to you this summer though.
Thanks skhan, I'll remember your offer. I will experiment with a few fabric pot brands that have been discussed on TFF. I've still got time to figure out what I plan to do. I'm looking at Malika, Nam Doc Mai, and Pickering.

Unfortunately, or fortunately as I have tasted some that when spaeking of carambola would not be worth growing, the majority of those carambola are not readily available.

Best tasting of what are readily available are Bell, Kari SK and Hart.  Hart is the most compact in terms of growth habit.  SK serms to be somewhat inconsistent in terms of productivity.

I am not a fan of PIN's viewer pages.  They are more of a sales marketing ploy than anything.

Rob, that's why we have people like you to get feedback from! lol I get it, viewers like to make every varieties sound appealing, even though some are clearly better than others. I prefer to go by word of mouth when it comes to nurseries, rather than going by descriptions.
Our forum avatars are very similar :)  Looking forward to your greenhouse pics and am curious as to what fruits best for you in your greenhouse...

Forumfool: Haha, they are similar! Finally got to posting some photos today. School has been so busy lately!

Iv'e been in the hobby for a couple of years now. I am still just a kid, so the greenhouse is also a family sunroom. ::) I'm currently commute to college. And I am studying Advanced Medical Imaging so I can soon start making "real money" to put towards my dream greenhouse. :D It'll be a while, but I'll make it happen soon enough.
Many of my plants are dormant rn/ are just starting to flush. So here are some pics from last year as well as this year. :) Only have gotten a few of my plants to fruit so far, since I am relatively new to the hobby, and most of my plants are from seed. Bout to triple post ya'll

How big is your greenhouse? Would love to see pics.

I think pomegranates need some chill and if it's always above 60 degrees they may not fruit.

Sapodilla & Carambola as supposed to be good for container fruiting.
Forumfool: Thanks for your feedback! The dimensions are funky, its rectangular with a slanted roof. Roof slants for 10-13ft. L=12 ft, W= 14 ft. I can take some photos and post them tomorrow. Didn't know sapodilla was suitable for container culture. Carambola is on my list. What varieties would you recommend?
