I was using some organic potting mix last time. I believe it was a fox farm brand.

I just transplanted my plants the other day so it wasn't the miracle grow potting mix that caused the browning on the leaves.

It could be that every time I was watering I was using some organic acid loving fertilizer and chelated iron.

Now I am using some miracle grow potting mix mixed with peat moss.

I am not going to fertilize as often. I think the plants will recover.  I am not sure if I should still use chelated iron everytime I water?

I always follow the directions and only use 1 teaspoon of chelated iron mixed with 1 gallon of distilled water.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / brown tips on camu camu plants
« on: February 17, 2015, 11:22:11 PM »
I was wondering if anyone else has experience browning on the tips of older leaves as well as complete necrosis/death of new shoots on camu camu plants?  What I mean by necrosis is at first the whole shoot turns black and then will eventually fall off completely from the plant.

I understand camu camu (Myrciaria dubia) likes to not dry out too much, but from what I read online about plants in general that this browning of leaf tips can be caused from various conditions but most likely its because of over-watering.

I recently transplanted my plants into some of that miracle gro moisture control potting soil mixed 50/50 with that finely ground peat moss.

( which can make the soil more acidic but is slow acting I think)

I am hoping this mix will be better than what I had my plants in before.

I am trying to cut back on fertilizing my plants even though I only use organic acid fertilizers.

I feel like I have to fertilize them everytime because otherwise the leaves will be yellow.   I also add diluted chelated iron to one gallon of distilled water.

I haven't checked the ph but I always use distilled water.

I am going to try to cut back on watering and only give chelated iron and fertilizer maybe every 2 or 3 times I water.

If anyone knows how to grow this plant please let me know.

Does anyone know if Lucuma seeds need warm temperatures to germinate?

Oscar,

Do you know how long the Lemba seeds remain viable for?

I ordered some from someone else and so far none of them have germinated. I planted them indoors in a pot.   The weather where I live isn't very warm this time of year even though I am in Florida.

I am going to plant my remaining seeds in some pots this summer when the temperatures are very hot. When the daily highs are above 90 degrees F.

I think I might be having the same issue with Borojoa seeds.

I have read they will remain dormant if the soil temperature isn't warm.

I also plan to put them outside when its warmer. They are inside some plastic baggies with spaghnum moss.  ( the kind that is anti- damping off)

I try to keep my camu camu seedlings well watered.   I watered mine the other night and then put it back outside. The next morning two or three fully developed leaves near the apical meristem were droopy.  It has been cool at night here in Florida but not anything near freezing.

My plant may have been shocked a little but its been outside when it has been cool before.

The main growth point seems like it may be wilted but I can't tell yet.

I checked again when I got home from work tonight and the leaves are back to normal but I am not so sure about the main shoot with new developing leaves. It still looks wilted or dry.

If the main growth point dies will it regrow from the side buds?

I had to put my plants inside a week or so ago once because of the cold and i put them in a bathtub that still had some water.   I was worried it may have sucked up some of the water.

The leaves on both of my plants were black but it seemed like it didn't affect the main growing point leaves.

I am being more careful next time.  I never water them using tap water but I had to put them someplace inside.

I am not sure if that is the correct species but yes I am interested in some dried seeds of Curculigo latifolia.  I heard the fruit is similar to dragonfruit in that it has a bunch of small black seeds.

Please let me know if that is Curculigo latifolia.

Has anyone bought seeds from either of these two places? :

I am looking for Curculigo latifolia (Lemba/ Lumbah) seeds.

It seems easy enough to find in Malaysia but outside of Malaysia it's quite rare.

Please pm or email me if you can sell or trade for these seeds.

Here are some recent pictures of my Myrciaria dubia (Camu Camu) plants. I am growing all three of them under the same conditions.

I always use distilled water to irrigate them and never tap water because of the chlorine and because it will probably raise the soil ph.

The soil I am using is happy frog organic potting soil mixed (50/50) with peat moss.

I use happy frog acid loving fertilizer and I spray the leaves occasionally with chelated iron.

One of my plants as you can see has iron chlorosis. I think it's genetic.  Any ideas anyone?

I am looking for Saussurea laniceps (Snow Lotus) seeds.

I think this species can be found at high altitude in the Himalayan Mountains of China and India.

I know its rare and hard to find.
