Those look so plump, you can tell they are going to be sweet and juicy, without even tasting. Can I have a couple please lol.

Greetings. If anyone knows where I can get the Kajang Starfruit and/or Nam Phet Longan shipped to me I would love to know. Thanks

78
Please tell us your process for the cold months ... inside? greenhouse? garage/basement? Would love to know more. Inspiring pictures, shame my jabos are quitting on me.

I would love to know why the garcinias just go limp like this and wither. It's not even a quick process, I've held out hope for my dying garcinias before and yet they don't bounce back. It's like my syzygium. The exact same thing, it dies inch by inch down the trunk and nothing brings it back. It really turns me off to garcinia. I will say though, that if the trunk is woody enough, I have had success with new shoots coming up.

Fingers crossed, mine is a sweet variety. I'm not a big tart fruit eater. I'll let you guys know in 20 years if it's sweet. Lol. Hope the forum is still around then.

Did you try fruitlovers seed page? I know I saw keledang a month or so ago, or maybe that was tradewinds, but I know I saw keledang somewhere. He had kwai muk too, maybe ask if he has more?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've experienced this with garcinia. It is sad, I lost a mangosteen and a mexican garcinia. They deteriorate slowly but never recover ... the tell tale sign is the limp leaves ... sorry, maybe you will have better garcinia luck.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The seller from Thailand is who I bought the seeds from. The seeds surprisingly germinated, and my previous experience was seeds sitting in dirt rotting, so I was surprised.

He says they are sweet. I am wondering if there are sweet varieties that are more like a sweet lychee than a tart one? I didn't know they were mainly dioecious. I probably wouldn't have tried to grow it if I'd known. Lol. Now I can't give away as many as I'd like.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is anyone growing Korlan?

I have some Korlan growing, and I was wondering what experiences folks may have had with it? I have read the information here on the tff, but there is not much about the fruit, whether it clings to the seed, or the height of the tree, etc.

Any personal experiences? Thanks

Looks like Carissa macrocarpa or natal plum to me. Maybe it's a relative?

87
I find that very interesting. I had 100% germination on my pometia pinnata from Maryoto, and I ordered them in the dead of winter to Maryland. I better take extra special care to get them to grow. :)

88
I definitely want a grafted for my collection. :)

89
Did you ask Maryoto? I bought some from him a while back. They were with good germination too.

As a repeat and satisfied customer, I wanted to say that Flying Fox Fruits is worth being patient for. Adam is kind of a one man show, so remember he has to package everything on his own, do the communications on his own, and on top of it, tend to the very nursery that provides the plants and seeds he sells. That in mind, I'm sure he will try to get to everyone when he can.

Lame, you let those squirrels have macapuno before me. I'm hurt ... Lol, it's good to see you back Coconut.  :P

I don't mean any insult, but it was precisely because he's in the UAE that I said that. I know the purchasing power of it's citizens can command more tropical fruit than other countries in the region, and the UAE has a huge import agreement with Brasil for tropical fruit. I just thought it was possible they may be getting some from other SA countries. That said, I agree they are probably still getting the majority of tropical fruit like mangosteens from Asia, and it's irradiated.

93
Are you sure they are from Asia? I don't mean to imply you are wrong, but even at Asian supermarkets in my area, many of the asian fruits are coming from Colombia, Nicaragua, and others where they don't irradiate. Just a thought.

Maybe you can order some male scions from someone, growing another plant could take years.

95
Mabolo can take many changes when it's full grown. I know of them taking full sun and high heat, and taking night temps into the 40s or so. I don't know that they will take a freeze though. They don't need high humidity, I'd say they are a lot less tropical than rambutan or mangosteen.

96
I personally enjoy Mabolo ...  it's not everyone's cup of tea though. You may want to try one before you grow it. It takes male and female trees. The fruit is supposedly smelly to some, but I had really nice smelling ones, like floral peaches. The fruit however is not juicy, it looks like a peach or apple, but is dry like a quince or even a hard cheese ... just saying, you should try the fruit, before going to the trouble.

Hey Adam,
Would you have any lemon drop mangosteen or any similar garcinia I could use for rootstock?

98
I sent a pm regarding your seashore mangosteen.

Anybody know the graft compatibility of seashore mangosteen and any of the other garcinia?

99
I'm still looking for any garcinia for rootstock. I would really appreciate a post or pm. Thanks

I'm looking for perforated. If you get any in stock or need to reserve, would you post it? Thanks
