Giampaolo, I don't meant to sound pessimistic but let's look at the facts. It does not matter where you are in Italy, its still the same story. It would be too cold in winter and too hot in the summer. According to experts at banana.org and people who tried to grow it, this species is very fussy about staying in specific temperature range.  Something that is found only in tropical highlands. Cool night temps in 10-15C range (50-60F ) and mild daytime temps 20-28C  (70-80F ). And like this every day of the year. No part of Italy, Europe or continental USA has a climate that comes even close to this.
Again, I don't meant to discourage you. It's your money, your time, your hobby. Do anything you want with it. Maybe banana gods will smile on you ;)

Thank you for your reply, I'm pretty sure this plant could be fine in some specific places of Calabria or Sicily regions where temperature/soil/humidity are very closer to those you said. But are only hypothesis, finding seeds and have seedlings in another story!

Musa seeds make annona seeds look easy. The one person i know of who have obtained these (gabe15)  had little luck, apparently they need a mycorhizal association fungus to go. Tissue culture is more successful but still needs the right climate.

Hi Troy: because you never tryied germinating D.lepidota...

Hugs,

Giampaolo

...so in my country it could perform!!!!

No, you are in subtropics/temperate, depends on what part of Italy. But' me replaying here is really pointless. You do what you want to do. Common sense does not apply in this forum. Everyone in a marginal climate thinks that they will be able to break law of gravity so to speak.

Hi DurianLover! Well, this is not my case, people who know me enough here in TFF know that I was able to not only to germinate but also to preserve species at the border of extinction. Italy is a not so big country, I studied the local climate conditions an those where Musa Ingens live and I think there are rooms to cultivate this specie outdoor in some regions in the south of Italy, surely is not easy to find the right micro-climate, but I like the challenge!

Hard is to find the seeds, harder at an available price!

Cheers,

Giampaolo

Hi SH,

this is true. But Prof. Paoletti (Padova university) clarified with this photo I think. It is definitely D.lepidota.

Hi Dada,

sorry but I need to understand: your D.quitarensis seems quite different from the one attached found on internet. Are you sure it is the right ID? Is your fruit ready to be eaten?

Many thanks,
