« on: January 13, 2018, 04:58:34 AM »
Looking up info on Myrica rubra and I came across these in a a few articles, sohphie and sophie nam. Apparently india has 4 species of myrica. They seem highly sought after locally .Maybe Roy could find them, India seems full of suprises.

Any thoughts?

Prunus mume is actually closely related to apricot. Im not sure about all cultivars but bulida is a definite success.

14
How good is the mountain nutmeg? Is it cold tolerant at all?

15
Im not sure how they rate for taste but candolleana and selloi are good in pots.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mangifera sp
« on: September 27, 2017, 08:28:25 AM »
I just wondered if anyone is growing any unusual mangifera sp. Im keen on any non indica sp specifically I'm interested in mangifera dongnaiensis, mangifera persiciformus, mangifera zeylanica and mangifera sylvatica. If anyone is from vietnam/china or has info or even seeds Im trying to find out more about them.

Has anyone come across low chill cultivars of hazelnuts or other corylus species? Apparently there are low chill types in South Italy.

International seeds are allowed. Plants not so much. Hence seeds. Polyembronic seeds give me a good chance of getting that variety or something very close.

More than likely, these will be the dry type the so called da palo? I think. I have ordered from him in the past and got good germination. When I asked he said they were intermediate between the da palo and da seda. I think Oscar  from fruitlovers also has the highland dry type. The lowland moist type is the da seda and is harder to find. The la molina variety that grapebush has is an improved selection of the moist type made at the peruvian agricultural research centre. Even if youve bought some from theobroma U would grab some moist ones too. They are more heat tolerant being from lower altitudes.

Awesome. Hopefully I can get there to visit one day. Costa Rica is on my bucket list for a few reasons.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: The much maligned cherimoya.
« on: August 13, 2017, 01:24:57 AM »
Maybe thats it then, it could simply have been that the atemoyas performed better in Qld. No one in perth is really researching  what does well here. The cold tolerance of cherimoya is a bonus for perth. My ilamas have gone to god sadly. My cherimoyas are fine, my annona spinescens are strangely fine, along with my mountain soursop and my suncoya and atemoyas are alive but displeased. Are any og these cherimoyas landraces? Do they come true from seed?
