Thanks Roy. I was asking because I got a couple of seeds already sprouting in the seed bag. From your pictures, what I like about Garcinia pedunculata is that the flesh to seed ratio is better than for most other Garcinias I know of. It seems like this fruit would be great for making juice.  No taproot either.

Hi Roy,

Do you know if Garcinia pedunculata is monoecious?

Hello Roy,

That's nice to hear. And I thought you couldn't get fruit from a solitary pulasan tree.

Tomas

Wow! I have never seen that before with any fruit.

Hi Radoslav,

That's good news you got a seedling. I just wanted to make you aware of the very long tap root that Lucuma has:

It may not be the best suited plant to grow in a pot for that reason. But it shouldn't be impossible.

Good luck!

I few years ago I got Okari nuts from Sadhu, with good germination. Perhaps he is not selling Okari nuts anymore.

Hi Mike,

That's a decent collection you have acquired. But never say never when it comes to Eugenias. You may hear about some great tasting Eugenia in the years to come that will change you mind - I have a few in mind actually. I will get back to you in few years...

Hi Mike,

They are huge! I bet they are hugely tasty too. Can you just please explain to me what you meant by "backcrossed to atemoya"?

Hi,

I don't have seeds myself but I saw that on Amazon you can get 50 seeds for just a few dollars.

Hi Radoslav,

I have had single Pitangatuba plants flowering and fruiting on its own.

Nice pictures of that seedling abiu Mike fruits! Do you know by chance the abiu type of its parent tree?

I just want to make people away that the original post by "red durian" was from December of 2012.

Thanks Adam for the list of jaboticabas with temperature hardiness. That's a very good list to keep.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lecythis sp

I decided to make on last effort to solve this riddle. I think I finally found the answer. I first figured out that Lecythis belongs to the Lecythidaceae family. Then I found this pdf document that says that all species in Lecythidaceae family are bisexual (if I understood it correctly). Here is the document (which has really nice illustrations):

Thanks Oscar. There is just not much information about Lecythis on the Internet.

Hi Brennan,

Yeah, pictures would be nice :-) You are lucky that you can grow Mangosteen without too much trouble.

Hi Adam,

This Pouteria coelomatica is growing painfully slow! Here is a comparison of a 3 year old Pouteria coelomatica with a 3 months old abiu.

Tomas

121
Hi Adam,

Glad it's still alive. Perhaps this is one of the more tropical Pouteria species, which may make it harder to grow?

Tomas

122
Hi Adam,

It's almost been 2 years since you first posted about your Pouteria coelomatica growing. How is it doing? I want to learn more about this rare species. Have you found out if Pouteria coelomatica is monoecious?

Hi,

I had a bunch of longan seedlings growing in the same pot, and they were about twice that size.

Hi huertasurbanas,

This is the first time I see that myself. If I were in your shoes, it would not worry. The leaves look healthy otherwise.
