Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Re: covid 19 and herbs ect
« on: July 03, 2020, 07:39:19 PM »
Right now they closed the small supermarket across the street where i live, for disinfection.
Somebody had covid 19 there.
In my city we had few cases and we got down to 0 right after i healed.
All was soo good due to the army and police enforcing the stay at home orders and wearing masks ,combined with the arrival of spring and trees flowering( pollen).
Now we have a lot more cases in my city, probably 500 without counting the soo called asimptomatics like me .
I think we should close again all restorants and travels ,reinforce the previous hard rules ,because it will be even worse .

I wet my trees with the hose and also buckets if its long distance .
This made me to grow long arms like a gorila  ;D.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cheaper pond heater?
« on: July 02, 2020, 02:56:17 PM »
20 per month isnt that much and you use it only in winter.I would keep it as it is.
I have a friend that pays 200 dollars a month just to keep the aquarium lights on.
You could use a heat pump( air conditioned used for heating- Daikin up to 400% efficient) to get up to 4 times more heat  for same wattage as the aquarium heater but the heat pump its too big and to costly for the size of your pond.

If its just 300 watts of heat needed, you coul simply buy a 2 meter long copper pipe and conect it to the heating boiler to make a soird of an small radiator to heat your pond.
Beware that copper harms aquatic invertebrates thogh so you will probably not be able to grow shrimps and crayfish.

I see science as being political to those that don't really have an understanding of science.
This is exactly your case and Daintree or most american people case.
I bet you never seen these fish for real ,and you get your ,,scientific facts,, from news.

Me on the otther hand,im the scientist you talk about regarding this fish impact on various ecosystems ( in fact i even explained this in detail)but what i say doesnt matter,go on believing the news  or otther such dubious sources wich dont account for science.

We talked about this before and you couldn't provide any evidence to support your anecdotal claims. The ones you did provide didn't provide any support for your claims.  I don't get my facts from,, news,, because that isn't an accurate source.  I'm not here to debate you, because you are dug into being wrong and I can't change your mind.  But I practice and believe in science, not science fiction.
I didnt posted any references to suport my claims because i realise we are not on the same level of knowledge about enviroment protection, ecosystems ,Etc.
In that case we didnt even had a debate,i was actually trying to teach you  ;D .
Just because i dont post references, doesnt mean a lack of respect from my part, just that simply your not even close to my level of knowledge about this subject to be worthy of references posted.

Snake head fish, nasty one!

If anyone can ship them frozen to california for a reasonable price, i will buy them. This is one of the most nutritious fish we eat in Indonesia.

Looks like someone else thinks they are good eating.

https://youtu.be/b4pyr3ese-Y

Now if the price can be made right to  incentivize commercial fishing/harvesting perhaps populations can be managed.
You dont realise it ,but it has a conversion of 10:1.
This fish needs to eat 10 kilos of bass, native fish ,ducks and aligator babyes to grow to one kilo.
Compared to rainbow trout wich has only a 2:1 conversion in ponds where its grown on pellets, the snakehead its a trash fish and verry damaging to ecosistems.

It is the most agresive fish in the world and the biggest  of all nightmares to release in a lake where its not native and where it can breed.

Roundup its an option too but takes long time to take effect like 2 weeks or more.
Be carefull not to touch any green part of your trees with it.

Now compare this beast with the peacefull, beneficial jumping carp that reduces pollution ,doesnt harm anything iet its soo much hated.

Wrong.
Science today has become like politics .
What you think its wrong,be convinced of it and strongly make yourself loud . ;D .
Il not even stard a debate about this to be called a chinese carp again ,but i know what im talking from a scientific side of view.
You probably know more about the biology of this fish ,about eutrophication and the phosphorus cycle in nature ,than me.

Im not saying that plants dont have aminoacids. They have aminoacids but they dont have the ,,essential aminoacids,,.
Proteins break down to aminoacids, aminoacids break down to amines ( bad smelling substances) and from there you go on with the Nitrogen cycle where ultimately the Nitrogen goes back to the atmosphere as it is a gas.
Plant proteins contain all the otther aminoacids except the so called essential aminoacids.
Not all aminoacids are called essential.

By eating bio plants ,not treated ,they contain yeasts and the worms inside the fruits wich are a source of essential aminoacids (and B12 vitamin).
But a vegan that eats only ,,clean,, fruits with no worms,no yeasts, etc, will be lacking B12 and essential aminoacids.
Its one thing to be a vegan in India and eat algae like Spirulina( its not a plant) and organic grown fruit infested
with worms ,and a totally different than be a vegan in Europe and eat only supermarket fruits .

Read more about nutrition in case you want to school otthers about it.Start with essential aminoacids, fructose ,or else i dont see a difference between a vegan or a priest/ pastor wich thinks ,,sea fruits,, are actually plants   :D ( im mad on these guys because they steal all the lobsters and shrimps when their fasting come).

Nobody said fruits are bad just im adressing to growers with big lands that can grow a lot more than what they can consume then if fruit is in excess they can make a lot of alcohol from it wich can potentially affect theemselves and their family.

I plant houndreds fruit trees and grow tropical fruit trees in the greenhouse,3 types of guava, feijoa, madras thorn,a few citrus ,cherimoya, garcinia, etc.

No living organism can use fructose on its own.
All life forms work on glucose.
Just google wikipedia or something about this and you will learn more.
Also google about the essential aminocids as those are in particular avoided( hated) by vegans.
You will learn more about nutrition.

Jabba the hut, plants dont have the ,,essential aminoacids,, .
These are found only in animal byproducts and in bacteria and algae.
Algae are not plants for the matter .
And talking about bad rotting smells ,the bad smell that comes from rotting meat ,its due to the essential aminoacids being turned into amines.
These amines are bad smelling substances with names like cadaverine, putrescine, etc.
Plant matter doesnt smells bad when it rots due to the fact that it doesnt contains these essential aminoacids.
This is just to inform you not to tell you or vegans what aminoacids you should eat .Its science and organic chemistry.
If you want to take essential aminoacids you can get them from algae but algae are not plants ,they are protists so its not vegan and when it rotts it smells exactly like meat.
As i said,i have raw vegans friends that eat only raw plants and i respect them even thogh i eat meat every day .
I dont open the can of worms about B12 vitamin thats not found in plants and how vegans will get to take it as injectable solution after a few years of being vegan.
Forum is about fruit turned to alcohol wich kills a quarter of the population of a country.

I have bottles of wine from 3 years ago when I am invited somewhere I walk with a bottle or two to share. Anybody want to invite me to dinner?
I hear the large tub beginning to boil... Yep, your gonna make one cannibal Very Happy....

Just kidding. But, since you dive, I like to invite people to go with me.... I'm always looking for something fresh for trolling.... Just kidding again... lol...

I haven't had a glass of my homemade wine in over 3 months... But I'm rapidly getting into a silly mood desirous of more silliness. By the way, I've eaten A LOT Of FRUIT TODAY.... Soooo let's see the Topic... AAAH::: Too much fruit harms society ?.............. Sure It's the Fruit's Fault.... lol.... It's the perfect reply for SeaWalnut....
Fructose from fruits its almost equal with alcohol and it damages the liver same way as alcohol.
If you feed a human or a kid mainly on sweet fruits it will get cirrhosis similar to cirrhosis from alcohol.
Fructose needs to be breaked down by the liver just like alcohol and we can only process 60 grams of fructose a day.

Eating a lot of sweet fruits can be as harmfull as drinking alcohol.
Its just science and if you do a basic google search about fructose ,youl see im right.
Sugar from supermarket bag its more healthy than fructose from fruit but we dont eat fruits especially for the fructose only.
If i fed my bees fructose they have a 9 days lifespan while from eating crystal sugar from a bag they can live up to 2 months.
At least if we grow fruits that in excess can damage the liver same way as alcohol, then alcohol i think its a better option .

The forum its not about trolling fruits but about being aware of the legacy you can leave to your family future generations by planting a lot of fruit trees( orchards).

For those wondering, problem with veganism is that you dont get the proper nutrients your body needs. its scientifically proven that your intelligence drops if you go vegan. You literally become an idiot. Thats just one of the downsides. It is indeed healthier to eat less meat and more plant products, but not 100% plant products. For example i'm mostly vegetarian, I eat mostly plant based meals. Most commonly rice and beans. But I still eat things such as eggs and certain dairy. And occasionally certain kinds of meats.

Hopefully you get it now.
I'm not vegan, but where is the scientific literature on this?

There are some things that can drop your IQ, but being a vegan isnít one of them as long you someone gets all their essential amino acids. Blanket statements are almost always false.
Im not trolling veganism but a vegan cant get the essential aminoacids because those are found only in animal byproducts.
They are called essential but doesnt mean they really are essential just that humans cant break them down from plants.
To each on their own and i respect people choices.

These type of idiots that grow agresive fish in aquarium at home ,released the snakeheads in Florida.
Its the most agresive fish in the world, can even crawl on land to eat pigeons, rats, baby aligators.
This is not like peacefull carp that eats plant and filters water .
Is the biggest nightmare invasive fish to have and taste means nothing since they need
to eat 10 kilos of native fish and animals to grow to 1 kilo.

Nice setup for cooling.
Id be carefull with that pipe from the barrel that passes near the GH in winter. It could freeze and crack if you get low winter temperatures.

To kill aphids you can use horticultural soap( or dishwasher detergent).
Or you can try to experiment with essential oils to kill the aphids.
Thyme oil for instance, mixed with dish soap then with water.
Thyme oil kills mites, aphids, dog ticks and such tiny insects but be sure to test it so it doesnt kill your plant as well.
I have no doses to reccomend and i didnt used this for aphids but im sure it works well and will experiment with it in the future.
[snip]

We have already tried such things as you've suggested but to no avail. Problem is Sea Walnut, if you were to kiil the aphids or the scales, the BHAs just bring more of them back to the plants and continue farming them.

Using the Imidacloprid, which is systemic, keeps the aphids, scales, etc. from reproducing and so they finally die without being able to reproduce.  Once that happens the BHAs cannot increase their harvest of honeydew from the aphids, etc., on those treated plants.  And when that happens the BHAs move on to any untreated plants in the area where they can still farm aphids and scales, etc.  So the Imidacloprid granules must be used to treat any/all the plants that one wishes to protect from the BHAs.

And as I explaned previously the BHA seems impervious to any of the usual pesticides one would usually use for ants. They just walk right on thru it.

Regards,

Paul M.

You used essential oil?
There is a big difference between horticultural ( cooking oil) and essential oil.
Essential oils are soo poisonous that a teaspoon can kill a human.
To kill mites you add just 20-30 drops for a gallon ,not 2 big tablespoons like horticultural oil.
Also essential oil acts different from horticultural oil.

They make alcohool from the fruits and 1 in 4 deaths are caused by alcohol there.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What do you use to label plants?
« on: June 28, 2020, 08:43:09 PM »
What anvil did you use? Metal anvil for these punchers i think its what you need but you also have to use thicker aluminium sheets.
The spray can aluminum has a coat of laquer inside and paint outside( the label of the spray).
Dont worry about inesthetic paint and laquer as they will dissapear over the years.

They are small trees.
Fuyu is usually Jiro and there are otther varietyes  ,a lot better wich you can grow ,like the pollination variant varietyes.

Do I remember correctly that pecan is one of the few things that do not do well in air pruning type containers ? Tom
No,the pecan its the most growed tree in tall containers with air pruning but usually they are just bottomless pots without holes on the sides.
I think the tall pots without bottom were invented for pecans.
My catastrophic failure with pecans due to the use of such pots, was indeed catastrophic but pecan specialists are reccomending these pots.

22
My biggest concert is the bigheaded ants(BHA) Pheidole megacephala which farm scales and aphids on my ornamentals, my fruit trees, and have really impacted my orchids.  These BHAs even farm the pests on the plants' roots under the soil.

They've proven so far next to impossible to get rid of since they have multiple mounds with coŲperating queens.  You kill one mound and the ants are repopulated from the other mounds in the area.

The Division of Plant Industry in Gainesville, FL so far doesn't seem to have any concrete solution for getting rid of these awful ants.  The BHAs seem to be unaffected and walk right through whatever poison we've sprayed with or broadcast around the yard.

The only success I've had against them is by using systemic Imidacloprid which affects the scale and aphids that these ants are farming.  Once the Imidacloprid is applied the BHAs abandon the treated plants.  But the Imidacloprid must be re-applied preiodically since when it wears off the BHAs return to farming on the same plants they were bothering before.

Anyone have a better way to deal with these BHAs?  Fingers X-ed!

Ive used it for bees to kill the mites from them and its not just the thyme oil that works but manny otther essential oils also.
If you discover a concoction that works, you can even patent it. :D

Palingkecil,Turkey and Iran have  much longer life expectancy than Moldova.Alcohol its more destructive than smoking tobacco altough tobacco is bad and it killed more poeple on the planet than all the wars in history put together.

Pokeweed,i was verry offended that the raw vegan friends refused my fruits .But i also offered them to take quince as i have those giant quince in excess.
They are a verry good fruit to eat ,high quality, but can not be eaten raw because when raw they are tough like wood.
Since these friends eat only raw fruits and vegetables, they were not interested in quince for wich cooking its mandatory.

SeaWalnut--- I think you are talking about Slivovitz made from plums? The Romanian equivalent of Slivovitz.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slivovitz

So too many plum trees in Romania means too many drunk on Slivovitz. I have never tasted Slivovitz. It is rare in America and always imported. I was curious but it was too expensive. Slivovitz must be dirt cheap in Romania. My guess is one dollar per liter. How much sugar are they adding when they make this?
The cheapest is 5 dollars per litter.
Usually no sugar is added .But if you want to add sugar ,you get a litter of booze for a kilo of sugar wich is cheap .

Thats why we should have more diversity of fruits that rippen at different times and that are good for eating.
Fruit growing for alcohol is not on my list altough i do have a copper distillery at home ( wich im still dreaming to melt it because i need that copper ).

About raw vegans,i have 2 friends like this, husband and wife. They live in the city and i was soo impressed such people exist that i told them they can visit my farm and take all the fruits they want for free.
But they were not interested in my fruits because they consider i grow non interesting fruits and they also dont look good as the supermarket fruits they eat in the city
