I had a bad experience with TT or it's just my luck. I ordered variegated plant from them last April and got just regular green leaf plant. I communicated with Heather by email for a few months. She said it was their mistake and she will try to find me that particular plant but it will take some time. Then she said she found one and still is waiting for it to arrive... Well, to make long story short she stopped responding to my emails. Today I sent another email and we will see what happens.

It was 22F as predicted at 7am and now at 7.45am 23F. :( 36F inside the greenhouse. I hope my plants I left outside and just covered them without any heating but close to the house are ok. Tonight is gonna be 33F so I am not going to uncover anything.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Variegated Minneola
« on: February 19, 2015, 11:16:28 PM »
Thanks.  :) It tastes somewhat like minneola a tasted before but every time I buy them they taste a little different. So I am not sure about it. Anyway the taste is really good. Some of the fruits on a tree have the nipple but also they are bigger in size than those I bought from store.

I am so glad I had a chance to buy this beautiful citrus tree. This is a first year it gave me fruits and they are Delicious. Very juicy, no seeds and ornamental. Had one today.  :)

These winds are out of control, have moved my potted plants into places where walls or bigger trees break the wind.  Cold and windy!!!!!!!! Hope it does not blow all the fruitlets of my mangos !!!!!!!!111

welcome to the world of tropical fruit tree addiction!

now when the wind blows you will become anxious and agitated...the plants are sending messages to your brain that make you feel their pain....

wind is the most destructive force we deal with!!  ever since I started growing fruit trees, intense wind has been a recurring problem!

 :D I agree.

The high temperature today got over 60 F but temperature felt colder with the wind chill.  The dew point is 33 F and forecast to drop into the 20s F so this may be coldest night since year 2010.  I hate cold weather!

That 2010 season was crazy cold! I got married in January, and honeymooned in Key West....had the wife out on a schooner excursion in 39 degree weather....needless to say we weren't  a part of the group that participated in the snorkeling part of the tour.  I have never seen people so mad in Key West as it was that weekend.  When you said good morning, people would mutter curse words back  ;D

Haha, sounds like me... except it was 2011... but 2010 was crazy. Neighbors had to replant huge palm trees in their front yard. Right now it's crazy windy in my area. I had to go outside and recover some trees and add some extra blankets just in case.

They predicted 27 but I think it was 30. It was sunny and quiet at 7am. Now it's windy again and the temperature has dropped 4 digits since, wow.  :o

486
Ooops, I meant - "27", not "-27".  :P

487
Oh no, the temps prediction for us is getting worse. Tonight -27F instead of 31/32F , tomorrow night - 22F instead of 25F last time I checked + winds and gusts.  :'( :'(

In my area at least, the farmers market has a huge selection of some of the best citrus varieties for very cheap.
Jsvand5 Where is that farmers market you are talking about? I'd like to visit it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pineapples flowering
« on: February 13, 2015, 11:14:43 AM »
My pineapples are pushing flowers. Two of six adult so far. These two are in garage. I wonder if it has something to do with it. Last year I had all of my pineapples in garage. Four started to push flowers at the same time and I got 4 fruits. Maybe I should move in those from outside too and see what happens?

mango seedling

Adam, how's your seedling doing? Did it survive? Nice looking seedling. What else variegated you have?

494
How long it takes for a seedling to fruit?  I got 2 loquat seedlings about 2 y.o. and 6 feet tall. I wish I knew how to graft.

fastest i've heard of them fruiting is in about 4.5 yrs...sometimes taking about 7yrs....I'm sure some can fruit quicker....but if I'm not mistaken, that's the time frame from seed to fruit, for loquats in central FL.

you can email me to set up an appointment to visit my nursery...I will show you how to graft loquat...and you don't even have to buy anything...I'm about 70 miles from Ocala.
Thank you Adam. It's nice to hear. I will email you when I find the time. I hope any time soon. I was thinking about visiting your nursery and buying something from you. And  I'd be glad to learn how to graft trees. Thanks for the offer.  :)

Citrus General Discussion / Re: meyer lemons
« on: January 20, 2015, 08:51:30 AM »
I had to cut my tree down as it is a magnet for fruit fly here. I had to plant real lemons as the flies won't attack a true lemon, but will happily live off Meyers all winter. 😞 I heard the variegated version doesn't grt attacked though, but it isn't very vigorous or productive. Has anyone tried it?
I have one in a pot, if you are talking about Variegated Pink lemon. I can't compare it to Meyer lemon because my died last year (there was always something with it). Pink lemon (it's dwarf I believe) had three lemons last year and a lot this year. Fruiting and blooming non stop. Probably 25-35 lemons in different stages are on it right now. And it's a small tree. Lemons get big when ripen fully. I leave them on the tree as long as I want.  :) Until they get mad and fall off.

bsbullie, puglvr1 Thank you both. I will do the search here and on the gardenweb. Thanks again for the pics.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Centennial Kumquat

I usually start eating them somewhere in late January - February. They are pretty tasty to me. And when they are still green I use them like lemons. But the tree IS slow growing. Which is good for container growers like me.  :)
