Finally got a chance earlier this year after seeing this thread to figure out hand pollinating my Rolli...........for first time had 4 fruit set..........sadly they were getting large, but not mature yet and Hurrican Irma decided to take care of them........Rollinia lost almost all her leaves,,,,,,,,,,,,,good news is she threw a flush and a bunch of flowers, so hoping to pollinate soon

So have pretty much and sadly limited my open planting areas, and only have swale space left. there are some lines about 20ft up, and prefer to not have to heavily prune. Anything else besides a low vigor mango?? Just looking for ideas. Thanks

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / ISO Larger Red Jabo

Anyone have any leads on a larger (prefer 15 gallon) red jaboticaba in South East Florida, basically want to fast forward into something that is already fruiting size.

have followed this with good success so far. Mentions early spring. I have however pruned both after fruiting and early spring as I am trying to keep trees controlled in size. Just an experiment of sorts, no where near a best practice I would say lol But have gotten yummy fruit so happy so far.

I live in Hollywood, and acquired a few more trees, so getting rid of my lisa atemoya. It has been in ground about year and a half or so I wanna say. I have a plastic nursery pot that should suffice for transport. Anyone interested pm me, you dig it up and its yours. I know survival may be sketchy, but why not try at least. If not it will be removed anyways in near future.

American Beauty bears round fruits I think.

Hmmm yeah these are definitely more oblongish than round. Will have to post better pics overall and when I cut it see if I can find an answer.

I feel any extreme is not healthy........Like mentioned above we are omnivores, and back in the day would eat what was in season or at hand. The culprit is definitely processed foods. Things unnatural to our bodies. We get plenty of salt and sugar (or should get if eating a balanced diet of fruits and veggies)  yet both are added to everything we eat........not to mention things added I can not pronounce (and I am medical, and several degrees lol). Will take a looksy at this film, have heard friends mention it, some say its way left field, others say spot on. Will have to decide for myself I guess.

I sadly will not be going back to Truly Tropical. We spent a good chunk of change their earlier this season. I was desperate for mangoes. I actually asked Rob, he forewarned me to watch out they tend to have very green mangoes for sale....... should have listened. People were super nice, but after spending $40 on mangoes, and losing about 30-40% of what we got because it did not ripen kind of stung a little bit.  Have been going to Zills I think this is 3rd year, and have never had an issue with them, have even had Walter tell me sorry nothing else ready, in varities I wanted with tree full of green mangoes tell me they need another week or so.  Only reason I ended up at Truly Tropical was because Zills had a bad early season crop. Luckily they have some already. Made my first trip this week and have had some amazing mangoes finally. Taralay my favorite. And as for shipping, I ship all the time from Zills to friends in other states, Verna helps me pick mangoes that will ripen in the time frame needed to arrive well.  I have not been to Truly Tropical before, so it is a limited opinion, but it was not a great experience with the final product. Is what it is, lesson learned.

First year I have good flowering, and finally figured out how to tell the difference between male and female flowers. The difference is so subtle. But once you see it, it becomes obvious.

Garden looks good and better than ever...........but dunno how much more they can take. Luckily I live on a hill sorta, so good drainage. And yes we found out we have a roof leak too, luckily seems to be isolated to the roof above the garage.

Thats what I figured. Was slightly hopefully maybe guiding or training the plant as it grows to grow in such a fashion resulted in this. But as fast as mine grows seemed impossible.

How is this done, or is it just internet trickery? Looks great if space is limited.

Would like to add some varieties of dragon fruit, I believe I have either physical graffiti or American beauty? beautiful dark magenta like flesh and definitely  better than any I have had from local grocery stores.  Those growing DF in South Florida, which are the best producing and sweetest tasting DF readily available down here? Hoping to place 3-4 posts along the side of the house by this fall.

Thanks
Gio

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Watering mango trees
« on: May 16, 2017, 10:09:55 PM »
yup for growth phases pre flower and post fruiting. Summer during fruiting not much need for watering with the rains. Man the pump is so on the opposite side of the property lol guess I have a few months to dig before the watering commences lol But makes sense to have it on separate control for the bubbler drip.

Was afraid someone would say "separate zone" lol..............how often to run the separate zone with bubbler? a lot of trench digging in my future. was gonna just tap the pipes running the regular sprinklers around the perimeter of yard and run flex hose from there.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Watering mango trees
« on: May 16, 2017, 09:45:40 PM »
Right now my mango trees are doing OK, but I feel they could do better.  Most water they get is from sprinklers, have been debating of running direct flex tubing and bubblers to the base of the trees to give them more direct watering 3 days a week (when sprinklers go on).  Only have my CC that bloomed this year so have 4 others to experiment with.

Have always had great experiences at Excalibur, but then again have only gone when BSBullie was available. Have been wanting to go back to get another one or 2 trees, but will probably wait a bit to see if he returns, if not will just hunt them down locally.  Everytime I was shown around by him, always left with 1-3 more trees than I planned lol

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: The Perfect Mango Variety
« on: May 16, 2017, 12:10:05 AM »
I gave up on perfect.....I took a friends advice and planted what was best as far as the space I have, which limited me to selecting mostly less vigorous varieties. I went with PPK, CC, Fairchild, pickering, and honey kiss. Not so much looking for a perfect mango, but decent mangoes and tried to space earlyish, mid and late seasons to have somewhat longer season.  Still might have room for one more, and might end up being Mahachanok. the quest for perfect will drive one insane. Especially when you try so many great varieties and have limited space. Rob has definitely ruined my mango taste buds for the better. I am happy with good flavor, low to no fiber, and good productivity.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Inducing flowering and fruiting
« on: May 06, 2017, 05:22:06 PM »
any way to induce blooming on guava and sugar apple trees?

Pruning and stripping leaves helps sugar apple. No clue on guava.

How much stripping and pruning? and when? is it too late if they have already flowered a bit and set a few small fruit?

Only my Coconut Cream set fruit, and then a second bloom so will be nice to have an extended CC season. But PPK, Pickering, Fairchild......nothing except vegetative flush

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Bloom Fairy Coming to South Florida
« on: March 11, 2017, 06:21:37 PM »
Finally about 2 weeks ago my coconut cream popped, and has had more veg growth and pushed more bloom spikes, so should get more mangoes from it than last year in its 4th year. PPK still NADA, zilch, looks like maybe some tips swelling but not a singe break open. Pickering woke up about a week ago. Fairchild still nothing either. And on an unrelated note, Wurtz avocado blooming too!!
