Those first fruits are the best for sure!! Got my first lemon meringue, coconut cream and sugar apple this year.  Now waiting on my first bananas that are a few months away from ripening, and some red lady papayas!!  Hopefully this winter I will be able to harvest my first mulberries and loquats!!  It is very addicting and rewarding.

And have to agree with Mark, while not in my top 5, it is a great mango!! Would never turn one away, delicious cocunut hints and juicy sweet.  Hopefully mine will be ready to fruit in 2 seasons from now.

Patience is the hardest thing i have had to learn since entering the fruit world.  Which is why I always try to find/harrass Rob lol to finding the biggest fruit trees I can afford in order to get fruit sooner than later. Pulling fruit off small trees has been my biggest and hardest lesson to date. The information and learning the other stuff is easy and just takes time.  Patience, is hard.

18 inches??? Better off taking the fruit off and letting that baby grow. 18 inches is super small to let it hold fruit. No expert here, but that is basic. Cut lots of fruitlets off this year from my pickering and cogshall to let them focus on growing.

Is it possibly to find big red for sale in larger sizes closer to fruiting?

Great topic! So what about "Keitt" mango... which is a very late season for most of us... when would one ever prune it? Would it just be best to just clip off the fruits stem and leave it at that (which for me is around Sept-Oct) and not prune at all? I'm mainly trying to keep the tree from getting too tall and lanky which is the way this tree wants to grow naturally...Last year I tip pruned it in Oct ( after fruit harvest) and I only had 3 mangoes this year  :'(
Thanks!

Thats exactly what I am trying to find the balance of, heavy pruning with out reducing fruit production too much.  Will see how next year pans out with the multiple prunings I did. If no big difference in fruit production, will continue same. If little to no production guess will just do a heavy pruning right after harvest to maintain size. Funny cuz my goal Pug is to get my trees looking like yours LOL

Sorry posted this same time as our texts Rob LOL  I am going to hold off on the pruning, as it would be the third pruning. I pruned as usual right after fruiting, a good heavy pruning for shape, height etc.... Then about a month ago did more of a tipping. The tree flushed pretty quickly after the fruiting prune, and has flushed again after the last pruning.  So won't press my luck LOL.  But good to know about this time of year is the latest to be pruning if you miss pruning right after fruiting.

Cool thanks. Watching as I type.

What the latest you have pruned and still had good fruit set?  Scenario is I am trying to keep/maintain 2 mango trees (PPK and Coco Cream) somewhere in the 10-15ft range. I have pruned twice already, getting good outward growth vs vertical.  Just curious as to what is the recommended latest time to prune.  I was advised Septemberish for last fertilizing before flowering, can I sneak in one more pruning now?

90
Adam, any chance of a how to prune video? I am assuming top it off to where last branches are nice and horizontal, and cut back horizontals back to right where they start to bend down?

Awesome!!

Interesting point on intercropping with the Jabo. Been trying to figure out where to plant my jades and sweet stripes I got from you (all doing well by the way) might have to look at around the Jabos home.

Have one maybe 2 whole jackfruits to give away.  Pick up in Hollywood today or tomorrow latest as they are ready to eat.  Gunnar was generous enough to just offer to give me DF cutting so gonna pay it forward and give away these jacks.  Waiting to hear from one forum member who was interested, so have one for sure to give away. If more than 2 people want will cut in halves.  Let me know asap

Acquired too much jackfruit so interested in trading for either american beauty or haileys comet cuttings. Local in Broward county might drive to Palm Beach, but only available today and tomorrow.  Don't know variety, it is a milder tasting jackfruit.  Will also trade weight for weight for certain mangoes.

Got mine today...............horrible...................they are all gone :(  UPS rang doorbell. I took package to kitchen, opened it, wife came around the corner and said what is that?  Said Red Jaboticaba. She said Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!  From where?  and next thing I know I am racing to shove em in my mouth, with she cheated cuz she ate the skins.  Delicious and great to know I planted my red jabo last year after tasting Sabara.  But was told I might like Red better, and could not agree more.  BUT will eventually have both in the yard LOL
