Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Mulberry cutttings or plants wanted
« on: February 10, 2015, 08:34:03 PM »
I rooted a handful of cuttings from standard everbearing.  They are very easy to air layer too.  Would like to trade or find a sweet white cultivar.

My red ladies look a little rough in the winter.  I mulch heavy and grow sweet potatoes around the bases.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Unknown Loquat
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:10:37 PM »
I agree.  I've never seen any that look quite like these.  Maybe I was a little harsh by describing it as "nothing special".  That is probably because I prefer bold flavors and high brix.  It was a pleasant tasting loquat with excellent meat to seed ratio.  I wish someone would chime in on which cultivar this may be, so curious?

Does anyone know which type of loquats these are?  First fruits to come from the taller tree.  Fruit characteristics/quality: yellow, teardrop/pear shaped, mild sweetness, moderate tart/acid taste, seeds vary in size, flavor - nothing special.  The second tree doesn't have any ripe fruit yet but looks like a more compact grower and heavier bearing variety.  The 2nd tree are the last two pics.

Anyone have any experience with the subject mentioned cultivators?  My seeds just popped.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mango spray regimen
« on: February 01, 2015, 08:35:23 PM »
I'm not very familiar with exclusive fungicide or pesticide treatments for mangos but maintaining a trees general health goes a long way in preventative maintenance.  IMHO healthier tree = stronger tree.  In other words a very healthy tree may be more capable to deal with blight.  I am pleased with Southern Ag Citrus nutritional spray with S Ag neem oil. I havnt been diligent about spraying every few weeks but I still notice a difference.

I look forward to trying them all!  Do you guys ever battle fruit flies?  What is your strategy for dealing or prevention?

Maria's or clonex work.  A heatpad will improve your success rate dramatically and is worth every penny.  From what I can remember the cuttings all rooted around 2-4 wks.

No need for mail order as he also special orders.

Without a doubt Green Jungle Nursery on Goldenrod.  Contact Bob and tell him Marley sent you (407) 277-7444.  I almost got a LZ last weekend as he had some nice ones however I had to stay focused on a Malika and Carrie I went there for:)  Most of his trees are really nice and his prices can't be beat.  You will be very happy you went.

Gary, No BS I have yet to harvest any of my own peaches yet.  I currently have a tropic beauty, Prince, and UFO that I planted in the summer.  I have plucked off the blossoms as they have appeared.  From what I've heard they grow around 2-2.5 in.  I can't wait until the next flush and bloom so I can get my first harvest.  I've heard the Tropic Sno is all time in terms of flavor.

Rob, Im not really sure.  They look to be around 4+ yrs old and were already on the property when we moved in.  The leaves and growth habit look a little different between the two trees which were planted approximately 40' feet apart.  I'll have to post some pics.  Both are fruiting heavily now.  If two feet is a bit low what would you recommend?  You think it will just throw out more suckers or start new lateral shoots?

I have a loquat tree that is tall and lanky with the first lateral branches occurring around 5-6'.  How would it respond to topping it back to around 2' after fruiting?  Will new growths form on the trunk or will it just send a thousand new shoots up from the bottom?  If the later is true I may as well just cut the tree flush with the ground and select 1 dominate shoot to train into a new tree.  Thanks.

Over the summer, during the vegetative cycle I successfully rooted a handful of cuttings fro my purple passion using clone gel, clone dome, and peat pods.  However, tried to do the same thing after flowering had begun and none of them took.  I think a better success rate can be had by propagating at the right time.

Will definitely stop by in the next few wks.  Glad to here you've got the quats on lock :)

Sorry to offend anyone.  Im a rather new Patricipant on this forum and didn't know.  Do you personally have a problem with someone offering to sell high quality trees?  I guess it's hard for me to follow your logic on "taking".
