I think I found the exact spot on GoogleMaps streetview, but nothing shows like your photo.

However, I'm fairly certain it is a new installation of solar panels that you are wondering about.

I was able to get a much closer look today with binoculars. Those are not solar panels. They are white nets covering rows after rows of orange trees. It was private property and I didn't see anybody to ask.

Location is 178 highway & Forest Route 25S03. About a mile east of Bakersfield, Ca.

Drove by this area today, miles of orange groves. In the distance, you can see the white patches. Those look like some type of tarp coverings, or not, I can't tell for sure. Does any of you know what they are, and what they are for?

You need light airy soil for cooler temps. The right soil is key to success in pots. Most cactus mix is heavy soil for hot temps which cactus usually want. You are in denver not exactly a southern or warm state. Cactus mix will stay wet or damp far too long at your temps.
Another quick easy mix for your temps is miracle grow organic blend with about 20% perlite added. You may want to consider this if you purchase any more mango trees once these are dead..
I have over 50 mango trees in pots for at least 4 years now, I know what I am talking about.

Is that the mix that you use for your potted mangoes? Do you have any photos of  those trees?
Thanks,

Thank you!

Thank you Pancrazio! I'll try my best.

I have a Eureka that's very strong. Is it possible, and easy, to graft grapefruit, clementine, citron (Buddha's Hands), and Meyer lemon to it?
Thanks!

For long term growing in pots, it's been proven that you can paint the inside surface of the container with copper. This promotes vigorous root branching and minimize root circling.

Amazing collection , in January no less!  All I had were some huge, but bland cherimoyas from the stores.

I completely forgot how this came into my collection. I do remember that it's at least 4 years old, it's  about 2' tall, in a container. Late this past summer it produced 3 fruits without any hand pollination,  1 remained and ripened this  week. Flavor is sweet and  quite fragrant, the flesh do fall off too  easily, over-ripe maybe? Do these grow true to seed? I'd  like to grow  a few more if that's the case.
Thanks,

Just  to clarify something, this tree is  not from my yard, I wish! I was just driving by and noticed it. JF, your tree looks  amazing as always.

Good for you newgen.  I don't think I can let that deliciousness get away from my mouth either.  When did you pollinate to have fruit now? I did mine late this year in August so my fruits are still very small.

Hi,
I did  the hand pollination some time  in the middle  of  summer, July-Aug. They were fragrant and delicious!
Thanks,

I could have sold mine too, but the fruits didn't get past my hungry mouth.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Do most people eat Fuyu persimmons
« on: November 26, 2015, 01:02:33 PM »
i tend to peel them because the ones i buy aren't organic and who knows what kinda stuff they are spraying on them, i sometimes eat about a half dozen or more of them in a day so i don't want to have high levels of pesticides or fungicides in me if i can avoid it  :D

This is the reason for my question. When in season, I eat at least 5 Fuyu-type a day, and a few more ripe, astringent. So whatever pesticides that  are  on the skin should be avoided. I usually remove the skin. The only times I eat them with skin is when I'm lazy (which is most of the  time), or if  they're organic.

117
I've put them directly in the ground, and also rooted  them  in a pot. Both worked, but I did this in the  summer. They will do fine with your low temps. Mine's in the ground year round,  lows at mid 30s in my area.

with the skin or without? Any adverse side effects from the skin?

Do you heat the greenhouse?

Yes, it  has several fans on timer and usually 1 (sometimes  2) heaters on thermostat. Temp is  maintained  at 60 F.

Yeah, trying is part of the fun. I don't expect anything this first year of flowering. :D

Turned out  I overlooked 3 other flower buds, so this tree has 4. 😀 There are 3 in this photo.

Guanabanas usually flower for a couple of years before they set fruit.

I didn't know that. Thanks for  the info. It's  exciting nevertheless.
Thanks,

Well, I just realized that with just 1 flower, I'm not gonna get any fruit. Don't all annonas need at least 2 for pollination?

125
I'll pick them tomorrow and will report back.
