Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Papaya mold on the inside
« on: November 10, 2015, 11:27:12 AM »
Most of the time, a fruit with internal blight will  display color break earlier than the fruits below it. whenever I see any fruit turning yellow in the middle of the fruit column while the ones below it  are still green, I will just discard it.  Whenever I cut open such fruits, it's either the seeds are moldy or the seeds lack seed coatings.  That's  my experience with solo papaya. Hope that helps.

Does the mold grow on the seeds, the flesh fail to ripen properly and taste bland ? If it is, the disease is called internal blight. It is caused by a fungus that entered into the flowers and grew on the seeds cavity.

Bought a few scions from George about a month ago. Here's a picture of a sweet tart graft 16 days after graft :

I must say George is a great  and generous seller.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: A Mango question
« on: April 20, 2015, 09:44:43 AM »
Hi,

To my knowledge, one of three pests is usually responsible for defoliating a young flush like that :
1. Bacterial black spot  (spray copper)
2. Mango Bud mite (spray with appropriate miticide)
3. chili thrips (many pesticide will kill these annoying fellas)

My suggestion is , If you have a 10x loupe, try and take a peek to see if there are little critters camping around the terminal shoot. If they arent any, then most probably it is #1.

Hope it helps.
