I am looking for avocado seeds that come from West Indian family (or hybrids thereof) avocados. Anything basically from Florida that has a big seed would be perfect. Waldin and Lula come to mind immediately.

I got a bunch of Lula seeds late last year. They are huge and they send out extremely vigorous shoots for grafting.  I shared a bunch of the seeds with friends. So I am looking for some more seeds to throw on top of my mound for some more in-situ grafting.

So if you are enjoying any avocados with nice big seeds, please save them!

I will pay for seeds + shipping. Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Indian Mangos 2016

I have been enjoying Alphonso and Kesar for the last 3 weeks now. The only way I can get them is through mangozz.com. But they are excellent quality! They have either been perfectly ripe or just a couple of days from perfectly ripe. I have not been at all disappointed.

Good to hear is there any Pakistan mangos available?

I honestly didn't check. I was laser focused on the Kesar and Alphonso's :)

I just had some Francique mangoes from Whole Foods as well. I agree with the original post. Good, not great. Not really much of the classic mango flavor. Much more citrusy, floral and acid present. I ate one that was definitely unripe. But then I ate the other two that were very ripe. Worth the price and I'm glad I tried them, but it didn't knock my socks off.

My spot in California is inland, so we get more heat and more cold than the coastal and bayside locations. However, I'm 600 feet up in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, so that spares me from the worst of the winter lows that hit the valley below. I still get colder than the east bay cities, but if it's 33F in Fremont (near the bay) it's 30F in my backyard, and 27F in San Jose (valley floor). But on a hot summers day, it might be 90F here and San Jose, but only 80F in Fremont. Meanwhile, San Francisco is always 60F every single day of the year. ;) The Bay Area climate can be really confusing!

Yep, I used to live in Mountain View. Summer was warm, but not unpleasant. But certainly hot enough to ripen subtropicals!

I have heard good things about Day. I wonder if anybody has budwood available?

207
Los Gatos, I know that area! Good luck with your experiment! My location here is also 9b, but I am sunset 13 with sorching hot summers but some cold (slightly below freezing) winters. So I am taking the attitude you have: try a bunch of stuff and see what sticks. I am trying: mango, avocado, black sapote, white sapote, green sapote, mamey sapote, ice cream bean (3 different species), sapodilla, acerola, carambola, cherry of the rio grande, jaboticaba, loquat, rose apple, chermioya, atemoya, custard apple, rollina deliciosa, lychee, longan, blackberry jam fruit, etc.

I wish you (and me) good luck in your endeavors!

PM sent!

217
Cool! Do either of you have seeds for these?

218
Good deal! I got two and hopefully one will be female and flower and produce fruit. But if not, maybe I can get some scions for grafting in the future. Thanks!

219
So in one of the references it said that only female trees will produce fruit. Are the females self-fertile? Or do we need a male and female?

220
Got my plants this weekend, thanks nullzero!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Who is growing No Mai Tsze lychee?

Gotcha, I understand.

Simon, have you been able to find No Mai Tsze lychee fruit over here at all? Or is this something you can only realistically get in China?

Who is growing No Mai Tsze lychee?

I have been looking into grafting lychees and Oscar pointed out (back in a post in 2012 I think) that the chance for a good take increases if a lychee is grafted onto a seedling from the same cultivar. And because I am very interested in grafting a No Mai Tsze lychee, I am looking for No Mai Tsze seeds.

So my question (and request) to anyone growing No Mai Tsze lychees: Could you save the seeds? I would love to try sprouting the seeds and grafting onto the seedlings.

Thanks!

223
Ohh!! Yes, me too please! I would like to be on the list!

Like the title says (and what I should have done first) is read the disclaimer. Can't ship to AZ. Bummer :(

224
I am definitely interested! Can you PM me the Paypal payment details? Thanks!

225
Hi Mike, just sent you a payment. Thanks for the offer!
