The girls are headed down Saturday for visiting family and would like to pre order a box for their kin and another for us.

What is the best way to order. They would pick up Saturday morning on way down.

Peach Cobbler
Juicy Peach
And Young have been most resistant to powdery mildew in my yard

With Fairchild getting the most it’s ever had but still going to have good crop

I had a cardinal get drunk on fruit that had turned.

Couldn’t hardly stand and balance at same time.

The tougher skin eliminates some  pest types in the same way a nectarine is less buggy than peaches.

if you know what your doing you don’t need the ointment you prefer.

Transplanting is something I enjoy.   Took two days to dig out my Jabo and have moved a lot of plants both tropical and temperate.  Looks like I am better at it than you so need to be rude.

My dad grew up in depression era Alabama and grew or they didn’t eat

Best gardener I ever knew.

And with several of our towns people in the citrus hall of fame that is saying a lot.

I’m about to move an 8 foot Maha chanok 50 miles away with just a shovel.  It will be less than six when it gets there to fit in the pickup bed.   Piece of cake.

A friend cuts his carrie at 14 ft and it’s bigger than my leg at the top.

You take out next years crop by taking so much and about a third of the tree st a time at most will help the tree.

You may end up with a tree that grows back to original size before you have fruit.

Have a bearing tree for about 14 years and in that time have removed the loquat and guava due to wormy fruit.  I have moved the Jabo to build a porch and recently  topped it without any bug problems.  Not a single worm, knock on wood.

Impossible to get a loquat or guava in the area due to fruit flys without poisons or labor intensive methods.

Jabo is a tasty choice without all that.

Trees have suffered Irma and a half dozen trees blown over.  Freezing temps that wiped out the first bloom.

Weeks of drought with perfect powdery mildew conditions and the latest storms with quarter size hail that knocked off  blooms and put through and through holes in leaves.

If I feel like having to cull fruit at this point , I’m doing ok...

You don’t treat small trees with big fruit the way you do big trees with small fruit.

It has set fruit and will hang on too long slowing tree down and risk tearing too young limbs off.

Had to tie up the sweet tart as the flower load alone was risky.  Had Fairchild and Young lose a major limb same way.

Still about fifty fruit on and will only let about five mature.

Kathy is first spring in ground and had to cut panicles due to too many flowers on  too  small tree.

Good problem to have.

Heavy bloom this year on even the youngest of trees.  Had to cut panicles on some to avoid way too much.

First year fruit set on Pickering, cut panicles. Still too many on tree.

I added gypsum for the first time along with the  k mag that I have used for a couple years now.   Pretty happy with the results so far.

The Brevard Rare Fruit Club will have it’s annual sale in April and will have 0 0 50 for sale at that time.

Those close to Melbourne should be able to get it then

We have had it the past two seasons but I’ll check to make sure beforehand.

I use K-mag from diamond R

0 0 22 with 15 magnesium and a little sulfur to boot

Fifty pound bag around 15 dollars

13
Going to top work my Providence which is having major problems with PM.  Saw on recent Truly Tropical video that her Pineapple Pleasure had a bad case of it also.

I have noticed the pale yellow blooms as a group show more resistance than the more pink types.

14
Going to dig up my maha Chanok and give it to a friend for a prime spot in my yard to put in Orange Sherbet...

And yes I have tasted both.

Second the crossbow as way to bbq and not wake the neighbors you will invite to it ...

17
Ordered two from Hawaii on a Saturday, they filled the order and got to fed ex Sunday and sent Monday morning and was  at my door by Tuesday.

Both in great shape.

Only problem is the one I gave my girlfriend is outgrowing mine.

Ordering may be the fastest way.

18
I planted some of the fan favorites recently and since then they have faced Irma and freezing temps to blooming.

I don’t spray or didn’t as for the first time I sprayed sulfur on the Lemon Zest.  I knew it was going to have PM problems and love the fruit.  The others I watched from blooms being frozen off to rebloom to weeks of perfect weather for PM.

So the winners

Fruit punch had a couple panicles get pm but I clipped those off.

Peach cobbler very clean. Juicy peach  Kathy , sweet tart, Phoenix, and honey kiss all clean.

Nam Doc Mai had the most for older tree and Providence for the younger.  Showing up for first time in Fairchild and a lesser  amount was the  Edgar and
Young. Light return on fruit punch.

I have a Lemon Zest in full bloom for the first time.  But I have other types to protect so depending on the issues I have with the fruit will decide if I keep it or not.

The O 2 is very clean next to the LZ.  That may be another choice...

20
Alex had Lemon Zest on his do not buy list.  The problems are causing the discontinuation of newly grafted trees.

Juicy Peach would be my choice

Here is his do not buy list and his suggested list based on disease susceptibility.

Plant your seed that grows in your area and top worh with a chosen scion.  Might get you to healthy and types you want faster.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Guava mango tree..vigorous or not?
« on: March 07, 2018, 09:31:00 AM »
Mine is shorter than Pickering planted about same time.  It has grown wider than tall.  It had a big bloom frozen off but I cut the dead out and it has since rebloomed through some cool and dry conditions. It looks to be quite precocious.

Shortest by far of my other new planting’s.

23
27 pineapple among the plants.  I’m going to have to expand.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cutting panicle on young mango trees
« on: March 06, 2018, 11:34:24 AM »
I’m cutting about 7/8 of  the panicle off on my younger trees.  That way it  won’t  waste time setting a large crop to be taken off anyhow.  After fruit set I will remove some, most or all of the fruit depending on tree.

If you cut it all off it blooms again wasting even more time.

25
That’s how I lost my Sunburst tangerine grove.

High temps for weeks and then 22 for mid day temps and then back to warm again. All tangerines and their Orlando Tangelo pollinators a total loss.

8o’s had more freezes than usual.
