Hi

I wonder if you are talking about the same Amazonian Marimari, I believe that they are talking about some species of Acacia, many people confuse the species, even in the Amazon it is rare that you find the correct source of this specie
Yes I was talking about the amazonian species. The indian golden shower plants are common here after doing a search on the internet.tell us more about the amazonian species

My search on the internet show golden shower is cassia fistula native to the indian subcontinent.the fruit or seeds is used as laxatives.

Yes, it does have a texture similar to tamarind but the sweetness is more bland without the tang of tamarind. In Australia on the east coast it grows from Northern New South Wales up to North Queensland. It grows down in the Lismore valley so it can tolerate at least light frost. In NSW it is rather charmingly called "Golden Shower". I didn't eat much of it so I didn't experience any untoward digestive accidents that Sunny indicates.
Interesting. Are you its the same species? Golden Shower is a similar plant from the same species.

Does anyone in this group cultivate this plant or have tasted it? From what I read it tasted sweet and sour similar to a sweet tamarind. Also it grows in a swamp and enjoys being inundated and is a fast growing plant with the ability to fix nitrogen.Hopefully those who have planted it and tasted it can share more about this plant

Well jun till september is not the fruiting season for most fruits in the kuching and serian area except mangifera species

Thanks.  What local mangifera do you rate highly?
Kuini aka mangifera odorata.then there is bacang which I believe is mangifera foetida.we also have mangifera indica the common mangoes but the quality is lacking and it is also a shy bearer here since it is not suited for the climate in sarawak .the rainfall we receive anually is staggering.coastal sarawak has rainfall more than 3000mm anually

Not sure if other areas in sarawak will have durians in july.to be safe come during the end of the year preferably december.lots of local fruits like mangosteen, chempedak, pulasan, langsat, rambai etc.besides its christmas .lots of booze too since sarawak is a non muslim majority state in malaysia.

I thought only Bali is non muslim....i will tell the wife, think she will go now with me.

In july thailand has durian everywhere but we have durian whole year.
::) bali is in indonesia while sarawak is in malaysia.also aside from bali east nusa tenggara in indonesia(flores, west timor is a majority non muslim region.

How old is the tree and is it planted in shade or full sun?

About 3 years . its planted in full sun
Wow .seems like an early bearing species.I suppose you planted it from seed?

Usually january and february in east kalimantan according to source.not sure if it was mentioned in the video.

In this video they will talk about durio kutejensis and visit a farm where grafted trees are planted in commercial scale. There is also a segment on how to use this durian species in recipes

By the way if durian is really your interest you can try searching for more wild varieties and species in kalimantan.try going to east kalimantan or west kalimantan.east kalimantan is where the largest city in borneo samarinda with more than 900 000 people is located.

Is there a nice tropical fruit park in Indonesia/Malaysia? I know penang fruit garden but is there one on the big island which is good for tourist?
Try sabah agricultural park in tenom(sabah state in the borneo island)

There tonnes of these fruit here in market during peak season in sarawak malaysian borneo.locally known as buah kristal or crystal fruit.seems to have lots of variety in color, fryit size and skin thickness.1kg of it cost about 12 malaysian ringgit here.even at my neighbourhood there are more than 10 trees planted by various neighbours

I think I understated the height earlier. The tree is about 5m high, 4m wide and the trunk is only about 7cm thick. It’s not in a very sunny location, perhaps more in the open it would be shaped differently.
Peter
any updates on the tree?

21
Is it on Mt Leseur the home of D.macrantha?
no its not in mount leuser.should he choose to go to mount leuser the nearest airport would be in medan and banda aceh.pekanbaru is in riau province.i suppose the place he would go would probably be at border of riau and west sumatra

22
I have one that I got the seed from Jim West, perhaps it is like Oscar's.  It is flowering for the first time now.  It's planted in clay soil and is less than 3 years old, perhaps 3m high.
Peter
wow this species is precocious .never thought of that because oscars plant only flowered at 6 years old and it seems like his plant takes longer to bear and slow growing.currently his is at 12 feet tall after 10 years.maybe this species has many variations and it would be great to popularize it
