Like the tittle says, I want something that can take the rare freeze with a fast growth rate. I plan on the occasional trimming (8-9ft) with a spread no more than 10ft wide. Was looking at neem but read that it can't take anything less that 30 o F. Murraya koenigii (curry tree) is a fast grower (I see some in Broward neighbourhoods) and the trimming can be used as mulch. Podocarpus was on the list but it seems like a slow grower for my needs. Recommendations welcomed. Bamboo is expensive . Looking to run a 200ft length for the windbreak.

Really nit picking here but needs direct sunlight to get pretty looking fruit (color/blush). Also, imo, needs 10-12ft space to grow. Though slowish growing, internodes are long. Otherwise...a solid mango cv.

Anyonelses? At my 9B location, 1 of my 3 inground purple/red Grumichima trees is flowering for the first time. They're over 5 ft and been inground since October/November 2017. The other 2 have swollen buds so hopefuly they'll be flowers. The pitomba I bought at Truly Tropical around the same time and its about 3 ft tall. Never tasted pitomba some I'm hoping I'll like it. Both took the cold like a champ.

Plant / Tree nurseries in your area usually sell various sizes. Some give them away for free if you ask.

1 is not enough. Get multiples of the young bearing ones- especially Red Jabo.

Leave the crispy trees untouched for now. See if the warmer weather in spring rejuvenates them back to life. Only then you'll know what needs to be replaced. The "scrape test" (to see if it's green underneath) can be misleading in cases like these.

I guess well see in 3-4years when they bear fruit. For the record, I ordered 3 trees from this vendor (Anwar, Sindhri, and Langra). When I got them, the Langra was consistent with the mature tree I had at another location. And the others didn't remind me of any cv. I'm familiar with- even Julie. I looked really hard. The grafts looked really clean though- like big nursery operation clean. Oh well...

I bought from him before Thanksgiving. Now I see he has sellling Banganapalle and Chaunsa. amd using the same "mature tree" photo for both cvs.

I see that my area is expecting 30s for a low on Wednesday. Yikes. Gonna cover up what remaining my recovering banana and coconut trees. I cant lose these.

I have a seedling (poly, two sprouts) about 1 ft tall so who knows what that would be. Don't have a top 5, but my top 3 would be Julie, Starch, and 3rd Calabash. Mind you, I have not even heard of Ice Cream and Graham until migrating to the US .

Forgot to mention, if you love the "chaulky" mouthfeel character that some ripe mangoes have, Starch mango has it while being juicy and sweet without being dry. Delicious. Produces in clusters. I'd estimate brix to be around 24-26%

Creamy, rich, very sweet, yellow flesh, lots of fiber (not a bad thing), about the size of a retired tennis ball but not round so it fits in the hand. Very susceptible to sap burn and anthrac on the tree and when picked ripe. Shelf life is short (3-5days). Very productive. Vigorous upright grower. Gets mango seed borer insects allot. This is from observing it in Trinidad.
