Faezal, sorry to bother you again  ::)

Distinctive characteristic of Manggis Master is sharper point, and not universally round like usual mangosteen? Right? Does pictures in these two links look like manggis master? (so I will know what to look for next time).  In one link they call it japanese mangosteen (what??) and describe it superior to other mangosteens. I'm assuming it must be manggis master?

Hi Rytis,

Yes you're right, the distinctive characteristic of "Mangosteen Masta" because it have a sharper point. The picture from isaidin.blogspot.com shows its characteristic. The fruit is always called Japanese Mangosteen because it often being export to Japan due to good demand there.

Cheers

Faezal,
Is this the same "manggis master"? I saw it in tamu near KK. You also never described what makes "manggis master" better? Bigger, sweeter, better flavour?

Yes, it is the same. For me it is the best taste mangosteen, please try to eat and taste it when you have the opportunity getting it
in Malaysia. The "master" or "masta mangosteen" is out of season in my garden at my hometown.

Faezal I have never heard of manggis master before. Is there anything about how the tree or fruit looks that hepls to identify it?

" Manggis Master " is a Longitudinal fruit and the taste is more savory than " Manggis Kampung "fruit . Manggis means mangosteen in Malay
  language.

Longkong or dokong can be devide into 3 sub species:

 a) Dokong Air  ( Wet Longkong - more water and less sweet )
 b) Dokong Biji  ( Full of seed - hard to chew and accidentaly bite the bitter seeds  )
 c) Dokong kering ( Dry Longkong - sweeter, less water and lesser seeds ) the best.

I get this information in early 1992 from a farmer in southern Thailand, when I started planting dokong. So I only bought from that farmer
dokong kering seedlings from a place they call it Tanjung Mas.

I have had a series of human flying foxes over and the jabs have defeated them all and left them bloated.I see flower buds forming for the next crop and both  big sabara trees are totally spazzing out.

Hi Mike,

Does Petaurus breviceps or  P.b. longicaudatus ( Sugar Glider ) attack and eats your sabaras? The nocturnal marsupial seem common at your area there.

This duku-langsat has been in the ground for over 2 years.

This longkong has been in the ground for nearly 5 years.

This duku var. johor has been in the ground for 6 years.

They all have similar growth forms being wider than the lankier langsats.Their fruits are quite different from each other as I'll ind out any time now but all have larger and sweeter fruit than langsat.

Hi Mike,

Useful link about Lansium domesticum - genus Lansium under the family Meliaceae.
