Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: First mango blooms of the 2016 season

Thanks guys. My VP and Hayden both have the same little bulb coming out, the rest of my trees flushed :(. Maybe by the end of the week I'll have an idea of what they're doing.

Any thoughts? I hope I'm not flushing! That would be zero fruit for me this year.

Thanks for the reply, I hope mine are not flushing because if so, they are not branching.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Florida mango flowers?
« on: February 08, 2016, 09:41:26 AM »
Hello fam, does anyone in Florida have flowers on their mangos? My VP and Hayden are both pushing something out right now but it's hard to tell, my fingers are crossed! My lemon zest flushed like crazy a few weeks ago, each branch did really well. I guess it won't have any mangos this year :(

Out of my 5 trees none have bloomed and my lemon zest is completely flushed. Hopefully they will harden up by Feb and possibly bloom :(

I think I'll start brewing some teas again. About how often would you guys recommend it? Also, should teas be stopped while flowering and resumed after fruiting?

I harvest my own worm castings and add that as well. How would I go about adding azomite topically? just sprinkle like fertilizer?

Do you brew a worm casting tea or just sprinkle castings on the ground?
I have a bag of worm castings and mollasis, I used to brew worm tea for some other projects.

Maybe I will only fertilize here and there with the muscle grow, switch on and off with other stuff so I do not get a salt buildup. How would you get rid of a salt buildup anyway?

That ST looks like a mango/Apple! Looks awesome and big!

Hello fruit family! Has/is anyone using this fertilizer? I picked it up from Lowes the other day but have not applied it yet. Can anyone give me some feedback? I've been using "SunnyLand Avacado" Fert and it's been... Ok.
I have 5 mango trees and they all seem to be doing well but like always I want better :)

I'm thinking September 1st will be my last Fert for this year before flowering in Dec.,

I think this topic has been hit before but I'm curious when is the last time you can fertilize with granular fertilizer so you don't ruin your mango crop? I have been using SunnyLand Avacodo fert 6-4-6. Also can you use worm casting teas year round or only during the growing seasons?

If you wanted your plants from city water won't it kill the beneficial bacterial in the soil?

38
She said it tasted like apple pie, I couldn't imagine it so I went with what I wanted lol
If I would have been there to taste it then maybe I would have got it. They were very nice and very helpful according to my buddy that went there. Home Depot/Lowes is the only option where I am in Melbourne unless you're paying an arm & leg in a tree store/nursery. I just wanted something different than the normal mangoes I normally eat.

39
That's a great question I will be interested to see what others say!!

The lady that helped my buddy pick out the Golden Nugget mango try to advertise the ugly Betty. But I went with the one I've been wanting 👍🏻

My last gold nugget fruit are on the tree so its kind of late season tree. It is solid and reliable bearer. My tree has not grown crazy fast which I like. The fruit is about 7 out of 10 on taste. Not prone to disease

How about the canopy and pruning? Does it respond well to pruning? The lady was trying to get my friend to buy an "Ugly Betty" instead of the golden nugget. I couldn't find info on the Betty quick enough. How's the yield on your G.Nugget?

My good friend lives in the Gardens area and stopped "Excaliber" today to get me a new tree, I'm sooo stoked! He says they have a huge selection and were very helpful!
He picked me up a "Golden Nugget Mango" tree, I can wait to get her in the ground!!! Does anyone have a Golden Nugget? Any tips of pruning her and grow habits would be great! :)

Thanks for the pics! I can't wait to visit that nursery, I've heard a lot of great things about them.

Thank you for your input guys, I found two small plants that were grown from seeds in the woods close to my moms house under a bigger mango tree that I might try to graft as soon as I get some Scions. Any suggestions on where to Scion for me to graft?

Mike

Hello friend, I have not tried to cut one not ripe, but I ate two yesterday and there's no fiber at all. The tree was probably planted in 1930-40 if that narrows it down at all.

Hello friends, I picked these off my mothers mango tree. She lives in a house build in 1923, the tree is def full grown and has been since she bought the house 20 years ago.
Tree is around 30ft tall, fruit is very sweet, 4.5-6 inches length, 14 inch circumference, I do not have a scale to measure fruit weight. Any thoughts?

Hello friends,I found a tree that was probably grown from seed it's kind of big but I'm sure the roots or damage somewhat.. This tree has been in a pot at my moms house for about three years, it's surviving but it's not growing do you think that I can take it home, bury it, nurse it for maybe a month or so and then use it for a grafting tree? I would like to use it as an experiment for grafting, I have a few friends with trees that I could get branches from.. What are your thoughts?
