Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Rollinia Tree $75
« on: February 22, 2017, 11:04:47 PM »
Any pictures?

I'd be interested but I'm not 100% sure the next time I'd be in winter haven. We're due a LEGOLAND trip before our passes run out end of March though...

Sorry I forgot to post a pic in the original post.

Will there be plants/scions/fruit for sale?

You can get scions by request for any tree. But don't waste their time by asking for ones you can buy at a nursery.

Thanks! I appreciate it, and Noted!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB: Loquat Scion or trees
« on: February 12, 2017, 08:25:15 PM »
You might want to start with Adam from Flyingfoxfruits.com He's got a lot of loquat varities and is a solid dealer. He's a one man operation so it may take a while to get a response from him, but it is well worth the wait if you are unable to find what you are looking for elsewhere. I grafted an avri scion from him earlier this year along with an argelino (I think thats the variety) in any case he's a solid dude. Best of luck!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Innarched and grafted Jaboticaba trees

Pretty interesting stuff. I was inspired so I took a few scarlet jabs, probably the three worst looking ones I have and decided to experiment.  One inarched with sabara seedling, and two with multiple sabara seedlings braided together with the scarlet. I will be sure to post pictures when I have something to report.

Keep up the good work!

Well, The braided sabara seedlings died off, but the scarlet plant is doing fine. The jury is still out on the inarched graft.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for a few avocado scions
« on: February 02, 2017, 10:17:53 PM »
I currently have an avocado seedling that is probably 6 years old. I cut it down to about 4 feet and am looking to top work it. I'm looking for 3 good varieties to work into the tree. Doesn't have to be anything special, I just don't have much access to budwood (Anyone in Central FL who has some to spare, I would gladly trade or purchase scions). Thanks for the suggestions and material!

I just grafted an Avri scion last week. Flying Fox Fruits has that variety. I'd start there if I were you. Best of luck, they are a pretty great looking loquat!

Those look great! How much would it be to ship the the US?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Star Fruit Variety?
« on: December 28, 2016, 06:57:04 AM »
Forget the shape for it to be a Fwang Tung.  The second is showed any of that orange color, no Fwang Tung.  From what I can see in the picture, wrong shape for SK.  From the shape a description I would lead towards Bell.  Dis it have an orangey/citrusey flavor?

It may have slight citrus notes, but they were minimal. I may have picked them too early as I was expecting a white variety and when they showed more orange color I thought they were well past the ripe stage. I guess next year I'll try again and leave them on until one falls on it's own.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Star Fruit Variety?
« on: December 27, 2016, 10:20:03 PM »

I bought this labeled as Fwang Tung and I guess I was expecting the curves along the ridges which never came on any of the fruit. The fruit were also longer and more boxy than I expected. The fruit tasted pretty good, sweet, just a bit of acidity. It's balanced and I could continue to eat them, but it did not blow me away, but hey, it's a starfruit and I'm grateful for fresh fruit this time of year!

In any case I was hoping someone could shed some light on what the variety might actually be. Thanks for the help!

Glad to see everyone weighing in on these excellent varieties! Can anyone point me in the direction of a nursery that is selling any of these top tier varieties, or to someone who will be selling scions after harvest. I would really appreciate it. It seems like the mango fanatics are all in South FL and here in central FL there is not the same enthusiasm. Thanks for any help! I would be happy to buy or trade. I mostly have jaboticaba varieties if that's interesting to anyone has need. (Red, grimal, sabara)

64
Wow these new varieties sound great! Where are they being sold? I'm sure I'd have to trek down to south FL, but these might be worth the trip. Thanks!

66
Want me to come up and prune that for you? I'll even take the trimmed waste offsite for you.
Yes, I'd be happy to lend a hand with this as well!

67
I had success with a paper wet paper towel and GA for 24-48 hr. then planted in pots as usual in the spring time. Best of luck.

68
how are your seedlings growing by the way?
i have one i got from ethan moving very slow......
Also pretty slow going. I don't have a great spot for them. They are crowded in with a bunch of other plants but the look healthy!

69
I got a couple of seedlings from flying fox fruits earlier this year, but not sure where to get the seeds.

Here it is, the newest memeber, a Phoenix Mango
Sorry for the bad picture, I would replace my phone but i keep spending money on trees.

Its actually pretty tall so i might have to cut it back a few inches so it branches waist height (once in the ground).
That means I'll have one scion in March.

Any info on the tree, I know it hasn't been out long?
All i know is its a Dot seedling and taste great (Rob's review)
Disease resistance? Vigor?

Great score! Where can a mango enthusiast get a tree like this in the Central/south FL area? I appreciate the help! If you end up with scions in march I have been keeping a couple root stocks around for just this occasion and would love to get scions!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Canistel vs. Lucuma
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:47:37 AM »
I've only tasted lucuma once and the fruit was a little smashed, but in terms of size and consistency I would rather have a Ross sapote. I remember the lucuma being smaller, maybe slightly more moist, but flavor wise, I would go with a Ross!

My red hybrid !

It may just be a bit stunted after the move. You can probably just give it some time to see if it bounces back. They are slow growers

If you are looking for things you can try, I have had success with slightly acidic compost(Coffee grounds, citrus peel, banana peel isn't acidic but I believe has trace potassium. Chelated Iron is also an option. I use it on my more sensitive varieties(Aureana, Scarlet).

Get yourself a jaboticaba! They don't take up much room, are not super difficult to care for, cold hardy, and are consistent producers. Also they look cool when they fruit!

I have had similar experiences with grafting otto anderson scions. I think my success rate was about 25% I have a few grafts that took and I'm happy to have them!

Any chance of eventually selling some seeds for those willing to risk it? I'm interested. Regards.

Yes,
I too would like to give it go with seeds. If you are going to sell any seeds I would love my name to be in the list. Thanks!
