Hi Adam, for Eugenia Uniflora would you also use mature woody wood or tender wood from the tip of the branch? Also is better to do cleft or bark grafting?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / need advice on atemoya graft
« on: July 30, 2014, 01:03:24 PM »
About 2 weeks ago received some scions from a taiwan friend of big eyes sugar apple and golden king atemoya ; wich took around 3 weeks to get here; half of them were still good to graft so I did; yesterday checking them out notice none of them had a single flush yet; so I start to scratch the bark with my nail to see if they were still alive ; all af them but one was brown below  the bark; but theres one still green below the bark; this one is on a small tree over a half meter high; my question is ; in order to help the scion to flush should I get ride of all the other branches and let only tye scion; or should I wait first for it to flush.?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / local avocado review
« on: July 20, 2014, 12:46:09 PM »
This is an avocado I'll call Playa grande; cause is the name of the area it comes from; it is a medium size around 250/300 grams ; green thin skin when fully ripe; green/ yellow flesh; that is creamy with moderate oil content; flavor is of a fresh delicate pure cado style; nothing heavy or strong like some of the large tropical cados we tend to have here; I really like it I did a couple grafts; the owner told me it bears from june through nov.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Rosa Mango
« on: July 13, 2014, 08:43:13 PM »
According to Omar Rudi theres a tree of a mango call the same name Rosa in the fruit & spice park; he mentioned me thar is very sweet and taste like a cotton candy!!!

961
Luc, I ate the first of the ones you gave me yesterday, I can say definitely  the meaty smoked flavor is there! About the flesh consistency is not like regular avocacos but most like creamy, another thing to notice is that doesn't have avocado flavor at all is like another fruit, avocado seems to me like something fresh &cooling for stomach this Chinin feels like something warm or cooked hard to explain, I really enjoyed it my wife is traveling next month to Veracruz I hope she can find more of those to compare!

I grafted some mangos 3 months ago they are on the second/third flush by now,but no branches yet my question is when  doing the tipping I have to cut from the base of the last growth, or just tip the middle upper half of the last growth?

I just notice this guys selling the Mexican Garcinia over there, is amazing how a unknown very limited( very small original area) can travel to far destinations and become popular , they even use the picture Luc  took
When comparing side by side with Achachairu , I hope they ask your permission Luc! I use the google translators to understand cause this site is in Taiwan I think they have very interesting Mango and Sugar Apple varieties!

Guys, did you notice the difference between the Siafu and Fruithunter Mamoncillos ? Where did you get yours Fruit hunter? The fruit look similar but the leaves are way different, Siafus came  more like two leaves together resembling Inga sp , the Siafu fruits type are the most popular ones finding them in Central
America and the caribean Islands, the dark green color skin is bright, the salmon color flesh is sweet with
Some astringent after taste, fruit hunters skin is more vivid light green skin without bright, and the flesh is
Similar color and flavor but with no astringency, my single tree is like Fruithunters, and is also hermaphrodite , while the other ones tend to be dioecious , the seeds of the two are edible, I wonder if anybody has como across this two side by side, I will post pics of my leaves and fruit tomorrow so can noticias the difference....here people call them Guayas!

« on: May 22, 2014, 02:17:44 PM »
NewGen, just to clarify, pictures in Internet are wrong referring to Manila, they show the Champagne Mango instead, and the two mangos are totally different cultivars IMHO the Manila is far superior mango!
Saludos!

The regular Manila we eat here in Mexico ( I believe in California they have a mango with diffetent shape call the same name as far as some pics I've seen; also if you google image the Manila 90% of images are from the ataulfo aka Champagne mango) is a top cultivar; mid size ; around 350/400 gr; light yellow thin skin; elongated shape kind of Nam Dok; flesh is fiberless' soft' buttery' with a very sweet floral; honey flavor with some vanilla notes; to proper stage is when you see some small brown spots ( freckles ) this usually happens about  4/7 after harvest; while if eat it before could be tart
