Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Taste of Redlands white sapote
« on: December 17, 2015, 01:39:59 PM »
Hello Michsu & all im in spring valley ca. my 17 year old sue bell seedling normaly gives me 2 medium main crops per year and a few fruits here & there almost year around its  starting full bloom now but blooms throught the year spring to fall always lots of fruit my neighbors tree a 15 year old badly neglected seedling of mine gives i heavy crop each summer i believe temp. and humidity has a lot to do with fruit set perfering the cooler moist nights of winter bloom  to hot dry nights of summer, i have watered my neighbors tree a few times when i seen it allmost defoliated  and it seems to induce a fresh bloom cycle,      Patrick

i take the cuttings to root, i do that with most everything,i have also had great luck with the seeds when i do seeds i DO'NOT bury or cover them  i lightly pack/pat the ground drop the seeds on top then water in this works the best for me , hard to tell how long to fruit from seed as i give them all away mostely to people who are not gardners, but i would think abouy 3 years .   Patrick

have had good luck with cuttings taken in Nov.-Dec. , if space is limited try adding a rooted cutting to your potted plant or grafting later.       Patrick

Hello Jeff , my 2 cents is all the above is just fine EXCEPT use of the green papaya to me and most of mine papaya picked green and pushed to ripen smells like a OLD DIRTY GYM sock hardly worth eating however they do make great sauerkraut easy to make less than ten min. no cooking req.  very healthy have recipes if wanted.    Patrick

how about from seed,?  from my experence they produce much faster from seed IF seed is planted directly in the ground and the tap root allowed to grow unhindered      Patrick
