Something else entirely. Here's a link to an article that describes it from the source.

What is a "ginger lime"?

Is that a type of finger lime or desert lime or something else?

Well...that sounds interesting.  I really like ginger flavor.  Now I just need to find one of those plants or bud wood.

Along I-95, almost all of the groves I've seen were abandoned - even the really big commercial groves.  I was just surprised to see working groves in Central Florida where every tree was big and had a thick canopy of dark green leaves.

No info on Florida Special at GRIN.  How is it different from Red Spanish?

What's the age of your plant?

I think Wellspring has them pretty cheap.  They are small though, like a 2" pot.  They just grow the tissue cultures from Agristarts and resell them.

About "Florida Special":

Bred for Florida pineapple production by Libby fruit company. At one time there where 240 acres planted in Immokalee, FL prior to Libby selling to Nestle. Florida Special Pineapple produces a golden-fleshed fruit with great flavor. Ripening fruit has shown to take temperatures down to the mid 30's without internal damage.

Citrus General Discussion / Groves in Central Florida

I drove through Central Florida over the weekend passing a ton of groves.  It was strange to see some that were completely dead alternating with some groves that looked completely untouched (from the road passing at 55 mph).

Is the difference in pesticide usage and/or nutrient suplimentation?

Yeah.  I've seen some of your posts on GW.  Which ones have you fruited?  Didn't you have a red Spanish fruit?

I haven't personally, but have heard that Cheese Pine is supposedly excellent.

Most of the guys here have only had the Agristarts varieties-  Sugarloaf, White Jade, etc.

Maybe Oscar has had it.  He has some rare pineapples.

I liked the ones the Fruit and Spice Park let us taste.  Just like pear with brown sugar.  Anyone know the variety?

Im not familiar with cellos, but Kaffir lime is supposed to be extremely fragrant and oily.  I haven't personally smelled the fruit, but smelled the crushed up leaves of one yesterday.  It had a nice, very strong smell - kind of citrus-lime.  They are used in Thai cooking for that reason.  And there is also the Bergamot sour orange, the oils of which are used to flavor Earl Grey teas.  I'm a big fan of Earl Grey teas.  The smell is really something special.

I was wondering if anyone knew what it tasted like.  Does it have that medicinal taste?

Wayne Clifton - katway@outlook.com

I picked up a 7 gal  Sweet Song lychee while I was there today.  He doesn't ship, but will let you come by and pick up.  He will also be at the Manatee Rare Fruit Council plant sale coming up.

I also picked up Pitangatuba, Zill's Black (original) Suriname Cherry, Fruit Punch mango, Ice cream mango,  2x Dream Cherimoya and Makok Sapodilla.

Just picked up a 'Sweet Song' Lychee from Wayne Clinton's place along with a bunch of other cool plants.  He was super nice and talked plants with me for longer than he should have.

Anyone else growing this one or tried it?  I can't find anything online.

I have the standard stuff (ie. White Jade, Elite Gold, MD-2, etc.). I've heard there was an heirloom variety that occasionally pops up in Florida that sounded interesting.

Looking for:

AusFestival
Jubilee
Queen
Morada
Cheese Pine
Anything different or hard to find.  Edibles only.

See this link.  It show "mudcaking" symptoms from melanose.  Looks similar to your fruit.

Could you post pictures of your leaves?  Do your leaves show any melanose symptoms?  Or mite damage?  Might point to the right direction.

What do you spray on your trees?  Are you using copper and/or Dormant oil?

Anybody know how Meyer lemon does as a rootstock?

My Meyer lemon was in a pot and grew roots into the soil.  When I moved the pot to a new area, the root that stayed in the ground came up as a new plant.  The new plant is now about 12" tall.  Just noticed it is probably Meyer lemon as well, since the original plant doesn't look grafted.

My question is - how long does a plant from root cutting take to mature?

If you decide you don't want it, I'll come get it for you.  Would be a shame to burn it.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: what's going on with my mandarin?
« on: April 04, 2017, 12:24:56 PM »
Yeah.  Not sure why, but mine was like that for a while too and I didn't think much about it.  Then, I saw just a few leaves on my Valencia getting worse and actually getting that sooty black look on the undersides.  That's when I decided to look into it and take action.

I thought the "red finger limes" from Logees were suspect.  Isn't the fruit in their picture a blood lime or some other type of citrus and not an actual finger like?

I saw ucr and a few places had finger limes, but they are just "green finger limes", not an improved variety.  Anyone with experience with these?  Are they worth growing?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Importing budwood
« on: April 04, 2017, 08:03:36 AM »
I had asked the seller the same question about what was required.  Thankfully, he was honest and replied that it was not legal.

"No kind of permit or health certificate will get plants in US legally, only quarantine."

It looks like I'm going to stick with Persian limes and try to graft a Winged lime.  Eventually, some of those improved varieties will become available over here legally.

Yes, of course.  That was my thought exactly and why it sounded so fishy.  I didn't know if you guys were getting bud wood sent to usda for testing or if there was an import agreement with Australia or what.  I asked about finger limes on another thread and was told "Ozlimes on ebay".

It looks like guys are getting bud wood from Australia for finger limes (ie. ozifingerlimes1 on ebay).  Do you need special permits or what?

Looks like the leaves on my ponkan and Valencia that had some melanose and greasy spot going on.  At least I think that's what it was.  I posted some pictures a whike back and that seemed.to be what the other guys thought it was.

Your leaves look like mine before the spots got really bad.  Maybe you could spray some copper or fungicide before it gets going.  The spots won't go away, but at least it won't spread and get worse.
