I usually wait until fruit is pea size to prune or when weather warms up whatever comes first and usually 2 sets of leaves back
let it do it's thing the tree is still too young to fruit my tree is 6 x 6 and been in ground for 2 years now. i made the mistake of letting it fruit after the 1st year and lost 2 flushes for that year.  I got a total of  12 or so fruits. So it's not worth it letting it fruit early.   i wont let it fruit this upcoming year either.  when your tree gets big enough you need to figure what variety it is to know when the fruit usually ripen and prune the tree at that time.  People calling it resetting the clock for your tree.  Also withhold nitrogen end of summer/ early fall depending on the variety.   We are about a month or two behind florida.

on young trees blooming, do you prune as soon as you see the panicle or wait for something else until you prune? do you tip prune only the panicle of also further back?

i tried pruning after seening the flowers this year and feel like the tree waited forever to put out a vegetative growth

what fertilizer do you use and what's your schedule?
wow super nice! big green leaves with no brown tips!  what's your secrete? :)
Part of the success may be due to the trees being planted in raised planters. I also mulch them three times a year and keep up a good fertilizing and water schedule. They have really grown well this year with the Mauritius putting on about 30 inches of new growth.

Here are some photos of the raised planter that is open to the ground in the bottom.

i was fortunate enough to taste it and it is as good as Frank say it is.  I'm usually not a fan of red/pink flesh guavas.

they start out dark red then lighten up to light pink with a lil yellow then goes blood red......beautiful color

My parfiankas are pink right now. I hope they're not fakes or mislabeled palnts.

Does the fruit start out as pink colored and gradually turn blood red like yours?

Ive grown tons of jabo seedlings and i still prefer to have them in a pretty well draining mix that i will water everyday or every other day. They don't seem to like mucky, wet soil-  yes, they love water but they do need to breathe. Some sun exposure is recommended as well.
Chris

kool will try to add some perlite to the mix....I did mostly fine bark, moss, coco coir and rockdust ....mango and cherimoya seedlings loved it but no love from jabo

I tried to grow 3 types this year from seed including red, sabara, and branco vinho.
I kept them on a lanai and they got filtered morning sun. I kept them very moist
and so far so good. I did lose half of my lanai to the hurricane and now they are on
the front porch and getting direct morning sun. In the picture one of the sprouts looks like
it is pushing leaves? I germinated the seeds on the red and sabara and I noticed they
still took over a month to push. I would try a little filtered sunlight or even a couple
morning hours of direct light. It is September already and the sun is less intense.

that's what I thought but it's been like that for almost 3 months now :/

Probably too wet. It looks like the new growth just keeps dying back. Maybe let it dry out a bit and place a cover over it to keep humidity up and stop watering until it really needs it. Keep in indirect light.

that's what I thought too. so I put one out  to dry for about a month. it still doesn't work. I think I have to put them where there is a lil more sun.

1st batch of seeds no good 2nd batch was from fresh fruit.....they sprouted but seems to be stuck at this stage.....its been 3 months like this.....i water once a week to keep the mix moist and keep it in  shade.  it's in half gallon milk carton.  I gave it a bit of fish/seaweed to try to give it a kick but still nothing.  A total of 5 cartons with 3 seeds in each and every single one of them is doing this

Hurricane Irma is tracking towards southern Florida and I am very  concerned not only about my own property but my neighbors, business, and especially people who live near the coast.  I have three mango trees, three avocados, and four banana plants and these plants may get destroyed by this terrible hurricane.   The avocado tress are not flood resistant  and local commercial avocado farms may get wiped out by a storm surge. My location is Homestead, Florida and could decide to not evacuate and ride the storm out and  risk  death.   It is possible more than 2 million people may be ordered to evacuate in Miami Dade which could result in massive traffic jams while the hurricane approaches.  I  have a very bad feeling about this hurricane and the aftermath could be very painful.

dumb thing to stay

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: fs: white champaca scion
« on: September 05, 2017, 04:29:56 PM »
Do you graft it or root it? I tried rooting in water and sterile media but never got one to root. Airlayering is also very slow.

from my limited experience graft is the best way....airlayering is very slow and rooting cuts has very low success rate.  I did 5 grafts last year had 2 success.  rooting cuttings I did 8 none survived and that using rooting hormone too.... I did only one airlayer and after 5 months roots barely started coming out and it was approaching winter so I just chopped it off and tried to root it further indoors and that didn't make it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / fruit/tree royalities question?
« on: September 03, 2017, 08:23:24 PM »
how does it work? when are you suppose to pay royalities? when you sell and use the name of the trademark/patent fruit or sell the trees?

for example if I sell a sweetheart lychees airlayered tree and use the name do I have to pay royalties? how about when I sell sweetheart fruits  by it's name.  Of course this is for commercial retail and just not from my backyard haha just wishful thinking just want to know the legalities if one of these day it happens :)

like always thanks ahead of time... I tried googling and search for info on this forum but couldn't find anything
