Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Brazil nuts - why so hard to find

Have a few 20+ year old trees but no fruit.  Go with Oscar and Annonaceae's suggestion of Lecythis.

I highly recommend this book by Jesus.  He is a very knowledge man.

Hi All

Harvested today......probably the most beautiful flowering Syzygium there is.

Do a google search.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Cymbopetalum penduliflorum, Orejuela
« on: December 20, 2015, 05:59:21 AM »
Hi All

Cymbopetalum penduliflorum

Apparently this specie's uses goes back to the Maya and the Aztecs.  Used as a fragrance spice and used in chocolate making. Is there any members from South America who are familiar with this species and its uses?

Please PM me.

Thanks in advance

Hi All

This is probably more relevant to sellers in Indonesia, has anybody seen this small tree with small fruit on the trunk (cauliflorous), supposedly known from Papua New Guinea and eastern parts of Indonesia.

Please PM if known.

See pic from internet link below:

Thanks

I have a Fontainea picrosperma in the front yard I have had for a few years (purchased as a small plant from Yuruga), very slow growing...maybe in the wrong area, yet to flower.

Uvaria cordata is African, not Asian species:
http://plants.jstor.org/stable/10.5555/al.ap.flora.flota000070
I mean it close to Uvaria ovata.

You can buy interesting Asian Uvaria lurida on ebay. This seeds germinated well.

Anybody germinated Uvaria grandiflora seeds from Ebay?

Hi Alex

Yes I have seen this article, and tend to question it....primarily Uvaria cordata is an Asian species, but for it to have reach Africa if that what the species actually is must have got there by trading or other means, as the endemic nature of Uvaria cordata is tend towards Southern China, Vietnam, Thailand and Phillipines.  Uvaria ovata's flower is completely different to Uvaria cordata.

Yes I noticed Uvaria lurida also.

Guys

More for Chinese and Vietnamese readers. I am chasing fresh seeds of Uvaria microcarpa and Uvaria cordata.

Hey Sumatra

Can you post a seed pic by chance.  It could well be an Uvaria however there is many Annonaceae species throughout South East Asia, some with similar fruit

I will be able to confirm if its Uvaria by the seed.

U. rufa, grandiflora and concava all generally have close to orange / red fruit.  Is the fruit in the pic ripe?

Could even be a Mitrephora.

Definitely Annonaceae.....could be a Rollinia or Annona.  Or one of many native species.

Hi All

Generally speaking I posted this thread for Cameroon.  Wirisy has access to it also.  I am sooooo sorry if you sometimes don't get responses instantly its just that we both have other jobs and many times people will PM me but they should be emailing the foresthouse email address on the first thread.   And yes Soren is correct the other advert isn't me...I only go under Isolona.

Thanks for the kind words most likely will place another thread in 6 months time....LOL.

Hi All

Looking for either Garcinia atrovirdis or Garcinia prainiana seeds.

Will either trade or buy.

24
Put it this way...we have 5 collectors from different areas and none of them have eaten it before, let alone seen it.  I will get someone to taste it.

Its edible like the Duguetia in Brazil.  Its interesting there are a few species in Cameroon and tropical Africa that are representations of those from Brazil....I am thinking Gondwana related...maybe wrong.

However one of the oldest species in the Amazon in Brazil is apparently is Symphonia globulifera, and yet this is also found in Cameroon.

Dear All

Just collected is the RARE Duguetia staudtii (one of the very RARE Tropical African species)

Its taken the collectors in Cameroon many many months to locate this species, if not 2 years.

Limited numbers of seeds.   Seeds will be $6 each this is to cover collector fees and the rarity of the species.

Either PM or email foresthousecam@gmail.com

There is a delay in receiving the seeds as the collector is waiting for further fruit to ripen - please be patient.
