Thanks,

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Garcinia Cambogia diet pill
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:25:09 PM »
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if these help lose weight? I think it is just like all the other ads that say it does, but really dont. Someone has called twice asking me to read about it and to let her know what I thought. Before I even looked into it I told her I didn't think they would work. If they really were some miracle diet drug then 1/2 the country would be on them and it would be all over the news. I have never even heard about them before. The instructions say "to exercise and eat a healthy diet" along with the pills. Those are the key words to me. You can take anything, but without diet and exercise you will not lose weight. Unfortunately, I suck at both of those. There also has been some man that has called her 3-4 times telling her how great they are and trying to get her to buy them. That right there is another red flag. Why is he having to push something that is so great?

Can I get some opinions from others who are not trying to sell these pills so I can show her? She wanted my opinion, but I guess it's not what she wanted to here. Hopefully others here have the same opinion as I do so she can see I am not the only one. Besides if they were a miracle pill I would be taking them.   :)
TIA

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pruned avocado?
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:08:36 PM »
I bought a Brogden from Home Depot. It was pruned or probably broken off at about 4' from the top of the pot. I chose this one since the trunk was more than twice the size of the other ones. I want to keep it to about 10'. Will this one grow to about that height or will I need to graft a different variety onto the main stem? Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can find a red mulberry 'Fairchild' tree? I don't remember if Fairchild is everbearing or not,  but I would like a sweet everbearing mulberry tree. I read about the Fairchild and it sounded good.

Also, I am looking for a canistel tree that is not so dry.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / garden soil vs potting soil
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:31:56 AM »
I accidently bought 2 bags of Miracle Grow Garden Soil for Flowers & Vegetables instead of potting soil. The site below says not to use it in pots, but will this be ok if I add enough other ingredients or should I use it for something else? I opened one bag, but I can return the other one.

« on: October 11, 2012, 03:18:19 PM »
Below is a fruit that I got. I don't know the name of it. It was past ripe.  :(  The only thing I was brave enough to do was to stick the tip of my tongue on it. It was sour.   :P  Those are the seedlings from it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pugging a sugar apple
« on: September 14, 2012, 05:23:23 PM »
I have a sugar apple tree that I bought from Home Depot. It is about 6' tall. I tried looking for info on pugging them, but could not find any. Does anyone pug sugar apples? What is the best way to make the tree bushy and maybe about 12-15' tall?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Magana Mamey
« on: August 09, 2012, 01:04:43 PM »
Has anyone tasted the Magana mamey? How does it compare to the Pantin or Lorito taste wise? I know that it is big, but I am wondering about the taste. I just read that the Magana ripens unevenly, is less colorful and less sweet. I don't really care about the color, but I am not to keen on the uneven ripening and less sweet.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Growing Kiwis in South Florida
« on: August 08, 2012, 01:52:41 PM »
Does anyone grow kiwis in Broward or south of here? I looked and from what I found they were in zones 9 and north of that. I bought a kiwi plant from Walmart for $4.00 that had a male and female plant. Does anyone know if I even have a chance with this plant?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Over ripe Jackfruit?
« on: July 27, 2012, 03:47:37 PM »
How do I tell if a jackfruit is ripe or over ripe? The person I got it from said it was ripe. When I opened it, the ends of the fruit closest to the rind/outside were a little mushy. Is this normal? It is also a little stringy. Again, is this normal or could it be this particular kind? I really liked the canned jackfruit and thought that the fresh fruit would be even better. Maybe its just not for me?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Getting Jackfruit latex off of things
« on: July 27, 2012, 03:01:47 PM »
I read that turpentine will get this sticky stuff off. We did not have any so Mike used Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover. That worked. Not sure if it is as good as turpentine since we have not tried it. What do you use to get rid of the stickies?

I just chopped a branch down off of my Carrie mango tree. It was hanging low and making me crazy. If anyone locally wants a piece of it or a fresh piece from the tree you are more than welcome to it. I am located near 595 & 441 just off of  Riverland Road on the canal streets.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Growing Macadamia Nuts
« on: July 20, 2012, 01:01:40 PM »
I am thinking of getting a macadamia nut tree. I am wondering what the opinions are of others growing them. Are they that much trouble to process to get to eat the nuts? I read about one with a paper thin shell, but the name eludes me at the moment. What are the better tasting ones? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking To Buy Some Fruit
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:25:21 PM »
I have been reading this forum for a while now and I am getting ready to buy some fruit trees. Below is a list of fruit that I would like to try. Is anyone selling these in my area so I can try them? I am in Ft. Lauderdale near the turnpike and 595. I have a Carrie mango tree, but since mine is finished for the season I would like to buy more mangoes. I would especially like to try a Lancetilla mango. I was thinking of having it grafted onto the Carrie that I have to give me a longer mango season on one tree. Please let me know if you are selling some fruit or where I might be able to buy some.
Thanks,
Renee
