Thanks for the info. His routes are Central & South America and the Caribbean. American usually puts them up in a hotel not to far from the airport. I don't know if there are many fruit markets in those areas, but I will tell him to look. One of these days I will go with him since he is usually off for a day or 2 while he is down there, but I normally don't bother. I think I might so that I can start trying some of these fruits myself.  ;D

Did anyone else go tonight? Lots of good food and people. Celebrated Harold's 101st birthday.

What fruits are available in Rio this month? Hubby will be in Rio and I want him to try some. What can I tell him to ask about?

54
I wonder of they open during the winter months of January and February.
They are open those months also, not unless we have a big snow storm.  ;)

Thanks for the info everyone. Rob, I can tell you don't like Chokanan. Instead of saying "give this one away" why don't you just say you don't like it!

TnTrobbie I eat them both ways, but I prefer them with a slight chill.

Does it matter if the leaves are fresh or dried?

I am hoping to make a dessert for the party with caniste or Ross. Does anyone know where I can buy some in the Ft. Lauderdale area or is it not the right time of year?
If I can't find these then I am thinking about maybe trying a mamey.

Oh, forgot to mention: the mangoes or seeds would need to arrive on Houston before 5. june.
Karen are you saying that the seeds have to arrive in Houston no later than June 4th or can they arrive on the 5th?

60
Don't you just hate it when the figs win!  ;D

Received mine several days ago. Thanks for taking your time to do this. I really appreciate it.

Renee

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pruned avocado?
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:08:36 PM »
I bought a Brogden from Home Depot. It was pruned or probably broken off at about 4' from the top of the pot. I chose this one since the trunk was more than twice the size of the other ones. I want to keep it to about 10'. Will this one grow to about that height or will I need to graft a different variety onto the main stem? Thanks.

I bought these mangos recently since I am trying to decide which ones to graft onto my Carrie. I have never tried any of them and would like to know when is the best time to eat them. Firm, soft, etc. Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Bay rum tree and allspice
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:46:04 PM »
Can I graft allspice onto a bay rum tree since they are in the same genus?

Thats a nice surprise to find out that it is a rare plant and it sets good fruit. Will be interesting to see how next years crop turns out.

72
Its slow release fertilizer.

73
I wished I would have seen the post sooner. I will take a perforated one if someone backs out.

74
I think it is 43.2 pounds of tasty jakfruit.

Sorry, I'm afraid i can't afford 50 for 6 scions, 30 was reasonable. Anyways i rather go buy a 15 gallon cado 50 dollars.

With a single "cado" for 50.00 you only get 1 variety. With the scions you will get different varieties and not have to buy several trees which would cost way more. : )
